That is pretty clever. My concern would be that not all plastics would make good picks some might be too soft and quickly wear away on the strings. I also have a bit of yellow pick rash on my strat from using yellow picks for a while. I suspect this could happen easier from some random piece of plastic. Otherwise, the ecowarrior in my loves the idea that non recyclable plastics could be reused as picks.

Years ago when I was a poor student I used to make my own picks by cutting them out of ice-cream container tub lids. A bit floppy, but cheap.


The most impressive development in pick technology I have ever seen is when Jim Dunlop brought out picks in matchbook-type packets:

I use Dunlop nylon picks for guitar. I play bass like guitar, so I make my bass picks by cutting a large pick shape out of old credit cards. They work surprisingly good and last.

if i am pick-less, i just use old cards from my wallet, usually just use scissors... this would come in handy, but i usually only need when i don't have my guitar, case et al. so i wouldnt carry only this thing around.

True, but you could punch out shit loads of them and keep them in places where you would least expect them. Your glove compartment, your wallet, make a cheesy necklace out of a really cool old declined platinum card, etc. I could go on forever. So....

....put some punched picks in your laptop battery compartment, cell phone battery compartment, Uranus, your penny loafers instead of pennies, your glasses case or if you don't wear glasses, your contacts solution holder, hallow out a candle and fill it up with picks and melt the bottom back on, which is not only a great place to keep picks, but a safe place from would be robbers, picks are the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, pick-kabobs, pick creole, pick gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple picks, lemon picks, coconut picks, pepper picks, pick soup, pick stew, pick salad, pick and potatoes, pick burger, pick sandwich, under your wig, taped inside an umbrella, empty the root beer out of your spiderman thermos and fill that fucker with picks, CD case, take the pic of your mother out of your locket and replace it with a pick with your mom's pic on it, cereal box....
...that's about it.

It's a shame they're out of stock because this is exactly the kind of thing I need when the in-laws ask for Christmas ideas.

That's a lot of things to do with picks... And I suppose you're right. And it would be a great stocking stuffer. I have never tried pan fried pick, and think it may be dangerous.

Well - I had to google that:
