12/28/10 flooding to the left of me, blizzards to the right.

...here I am, stuck in the middle with you. :P

The east coast is snowed in, the left west coast is flooded. Finally, something for the news to talk about other than Mylie Cyrus taking a bong hit.

I even saw that Australia is flooded in areas. It just seems like yesterday that John was saying that they were in a drought.

I just noticed by sheer coincidence that Paco is about to ooze back in to SONG FIGHT, WoO HoO!

QUESTION OF THE DAY:
How is our extreme weather effecting you? Let's have a head count to make sure everyone is doing ok.

As for me, nothing serious. My backyard is a mess from the winds about a week ago. One of my table umbrellas is broken, because I didn't think to close them when the wind started. One just flew away nowhere to be seen. The next day I took my dog for a run down in the canyon as we do almost daily. My dog was running ahead of me as usual and I heard her barking. I get to her (gasping for air, clutching my chest, as usual) and she is standing next to our umbrella barking in excitement. I just laughed and told her she was a good girl. She couldn't stop wagging her tail and barking as I carried it home. I think in her mind, that was the ultimate fetch. Well, I'm sure she thought of a different word than ultimate, because she's a dog. She probably thought something like epic.

edit: I forgot to mention. The umbrella that pulled a Marry Poppins and flew down to the canyon was not damaged. The one that flew into my pool along with my patio table and chairs, is broken.

My commute was ridiculous this morning...but I'm glad that I no longer live in New Jersey as my commute would've been a living hell.

I'm stuck in the middle, namely New Mexico, where the weather is perfect.

62 F here in Arizona. No worries.

My mom's 81st birthday today, we picked up a carrot cake (her favorite) at Costco and went by the Care Home to visit for a while. Finished watching the first season of "The Tudors" on Netflix. Stuff like that there.

Face pain has been in abeyance for five or six days now, my Christmas miracle and now I'm hoping it lasts 'til New Year's Eve. Off the pain pills, even, so's I can have a glass or two of wine on NYE if all goes well.

Signed up at community college to start taking classes in "online educational design," i.e., turning classes into online training. Way back in 1963, my mom used to do typing for a company called Training Systems, Inc. in L.A. which was developing "computerized" training before there were non-behemoth computers... all on paper, the left side is the question, on the right side, you pick one of three or four answers and it would tell you what frame to jump to. As I recall, not only was it all being done in hardcopy, it was all being typed with carbon paper! How things have changed...

This (the classes I'm signed up for) is an attempt to start pursuing a specific educational goal that stands some chance of turning into an actual job, which is probably what I should have done back in 2003 when I got laid off, rather than taking all those classes in audio production and interdisciplinary arts...

I was in Buffalo for Christmas, and they were calling for blizzards back home, was a bit worried that I'd have to park in the street and shovel the driveway so we could park. 10 inches. Then they changed the estimate to 6. Then 4. Then as it turned out we got 0. Silly Maryland! They are always so apocalyptic about snow here and there was nothing. Although east and south of us there was 13in I hear.
In Buffalo we had little bits of snow every day, I felt right back at home. In the middle (Pennsylvania) the weather was clear and sunny.

If you're looking for secret Paco, you should probably give the Wasp fight a listen. (And write a review -- someone has to do it!)

The weather here has been unremarkable (cold, some snow), but for New Year's Day, we're expecting 7 Celsius (I'd estimate that's around 45 F), which is weird for these parts.

And of course, just as I started towards the airport it starts dumping down snow. Why can't it ever snow when it would be pleasant to be in? This seems to happen every time I visit my parents.

Yep - very large areas of Queensland are underwater, and will be so for a few weeks.

Toowoomba is at the top of the Great Dividing Range - so we are pretty immune from major flooding. I am in Newcastle at the moment - but it looks like roads should be OK to get home over th enext few days

Best to you and the fam.
