Cool, but I wanted to see it in action on Jeopardy.

And do you think they did that on purpose at 2:14?

edit: I had to go see Watson do it's thing.

Q: So will computers take over the world?
A: It's not an alien invasion. They're not coming from Mars to displace us. We're creating them to make ourselves smarter. We're going to literally merge with them.
I'm kind of merged with this already (Kurzweil holds up his cellphone). I don't go anywhere without it. And it gives me access to all of human knowledge with a few keystrokes.
Ultimately these computers will be inside our bodies and brains.
And, yes, we're going to be a very different civilization as a result.
I like his point that we have merged with technology already... Cool article, thanks

Kurzweil is the bomb. I can't wait till he can implant a synth in my head that's controlled by neurons & endorphins. :D
Irwin: I'd sell my soul to jesus to program drums like signboy.

Doubtful. Watson actually botched several auditions to get on the show before the producers agreed to shoot a whole week's worth of episodes with him, so IBM had no reason to handicap the machine. They really wanted him to get every answer.

I've been following this story for about a year now, by the way. I seriously doubt they've ironed out all of Watson's bugs. If I had money and a means of contacting Kurzweil, I'd bet against him.

Hey... Anyone wanna make this interesting? If you think Watson will win, take me up on it, and the loser has to record a song praising the winner, or do a cover of a song of the winner's choice? :)

You've clearly misjudged my level of maturity. Try again, lol.

edit: I was referring to Ross' link, by the way. I see your response was probably about the youtube vid I posted. Ugh, never mind, you ruined my funny, Jon....RUINED IT!

In regards to Watson v. Jennings and Rutter, it may be an interesting battle when it comes to the puns and wordplay which Watson may struggle with, but Jeopardy is also about reflexive timing. How do you compete with a computer's ability to buzz in quicker than you?

That's assuming that the computer does the speech processing and database search faster than the human players do... and that it actually understands the answer, and that it finds a question in the database.

Let's say it's an easy question that all three clearly know the answer... it would come down to the reflex and that would go Watson.

One of my friends was on jeopardy once and she felt like a lot of the game is reflex. All three people would know the answer, but you had to get the hang of being faster than your opponents. If you push the button before you have completely formulated the answer, you still have five seconds in which to figure it all out.

I beat him, even though he sniped a question away from me due to bad spelling (I threw an extra A into "Brahms"). Must have been based on an older algorithm.
