Any recommendations on the BEST noise reduction software or plugin ?

i record 2 songs with a female vocalist yesterday, unfortunately the mic was running a bit hot, and theres some unwanted noise i would like to get rid off.

i used audio galaxy on the track, and not too thrill on the results.

any suggestions ? tracks needed by 2/21/2011.

A good full dynamics plug would probably do it. Compression/gate/limiter. It doesn't cut the noise while she sings, but cuts the noise between words. I've had bad luck trying noise reduction with digital because it really muddles the track.

Maybe someone will suggest something better.

yeah, it be a high buzzzz and hissses, and maybe help eliminate room ambiance noise (optional)..

i used to use one software that did a decent job at it, better than audio galaxy, at least. but don't have it anymore, and can't remember the name, or find it online. something like cool sound edit... but not the one am finding online.

Thanks BLT.

open to new suggestions.

Audacity has a "Noise removal" effect. You select a few seconds of just noise and then it will try to generate a noise profile and remove that noise from the rest of the track.

Worth a shot.

Oh, and go get the free GoldWave. It has a hiss filter that you can dial in pretty damn good. It might even have a filter for other noises. I'll sometime run a bass track through Goldwave when the click of each pick click is too ticky. I use their pop/click filter on a very passive setting. It removes the ticky tick ticks without touching the bass notes. Then I move the track back to Cubase for mixing.

in theory, that sounds great. I want to try it. Is it a VST? I'm not real familiar with audacity.

Seconded, Goldwave's clipboard noiseprint filter is good. Sometimes you have to adjust it just a hair so as not to get too much of the artifact that can come with it if it's too aggressive.

YES, lets. Apparently Niveous liked it!

Unfortunately my cousin Beth moved to North Carolina. But she is coming down in April... so, who knows right?

Welp, there you have it. Niv has his finger on the pulse of America.

.....by finger I mean penis.

From what I recall, Audacity's noise removal is pretty horrible. It pretty much completely removes all the frequencies involved in the noise, so the resulting audio just sounds... different.

That's right Jast, it is!

I found the software i used to use for this sort of things, and like a lot! its called Cool Sound Edit Pro, by Brothersoft.
It's also pretty good for EQ final mixes, i think.

Yes, but you have to do it ITB.

I'll bite: LOL

[edit] wait, no, I didn't mean bite, I meant like, "take the bait"
...because you seem to be a master of baiting.

Late to the party here, but I find that usually a reasonable noise gate does wonders. If the noise is high enough that you can actually hear it over what was being recorded, you probably have other problems that should be addressed.

I don't know about standalone stuff but Logic comes with several different noise gates which all do different things (like being triggered by various frequency ranges, allowing for lookahead, variable attack/release times, etc.) and I'm sure there are plenty of mastering plugins out there that provide even more functionality as well.
