The Song Fight Bulletin Board

Ok, in a nutty shell. I use the PreSonus firebox as my DAW interface to record and playback while in Cubase and it works great. I use computer speaker plugged into my computer sound card for listening to music online, etc. BUT, I can't seem to get everything to just use my PreSonus sound card. I want to watch YouTube vids and have it come through my PreSonus because I have the monitor output hooked to a stereo system and speakers.

I have gone into the volume control and changed from the ESS Allegro to the PreSonus and everywhere else I could find the sound device I've changed to the PreSonus. No luck.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas?

What operating system?

In Windows, if you go to the control panel -> sounds/sound devices/browse around, you can select your default input and output device.

If your other sound device is built into the motherboard (aka you don't have a sound card) and you can't figure out the OS settings, hop into the BIOS when your computer is booting (F2, Delete, whatever) and disable on-board sound.

Basically, find the setting or kill the device you don't want to use.

Thanks, I'll try that. Yes, it's Windows and a built in sound card. When I changed it in the control panel>sound and audio devices to the PreSonus, nothing works until I change it back to the on board sound card. So I'll try it in the bios.

That's not a good sign. Changing the playback device should work.

When all else fails, disable the on-board sound, uninstall all sound drivers, and reinstall newest PreSonus drivers.

I owned a PreSonus for about a week. The drivers were complete shit and I traded it in. For your sake, I hope they hired some better programmers since then.

i find that changing my computers sound settings on the fly never works. i have to close the program i am using, change the setting in the control panel, and then restart the program.

Ok, I got it. It was as Ken said, I had to restart the program. It won't change on the fly. I could have sworn I tried that before I made this thread. BUT, there is another stupid reason it wasn't responding. I noticed that it said the PreSonus out 3/4, so I set the PreSonus mixer to 3/4 on it's out. Nope, it's 5/6 on the PreSonus mixer. I don't have to open the mixer again or use it, which I never do because I use the Cubase mixer. But it does have to be set once. Bottom line, with PreSonus, it's all in their mixer, so I guess that must be what Manhattan was saying about their drivers, etc. But it's always been great when using Cubase.

Also, I only want to use the PreSonus sound card from now on for everything, including watch youtubes and online music. So I guess the only time I make a change on the PreSonus mixer is to go from headphones, to 3/4 out (mixer monitors) and 5/6 out (normal stereo speakers). I haven't tried it yet, but it seems that I can make those changes on the fly, because I can click the other outs and then come back to the headphones just fine while music is playing.
