TapaTalk or other somesuch for phones?

I have no idea how much work is involved in making this forum accessible from TapaTalk or other Android/ifone/african american berry apps, but it would be awesome if each page didn't have to load in full in the browser to read BLT's comedy.
yay/nay?

I read this forum from my Nexus One regularly and have no problems with it.

And I read it on a three-year-old LG Vu without any issues.

it would be very cool if there was a <meta name="viewport" content="width=800" /> tag in the header... or maybe even less. Have to play with the value to get it right.

That at least works on iPhones so I presume it'll work on other phones. By default they tend to assume 1024 width, which makes things a little small.

On Android you can just doubletap on a post and it will zoom and refloe appropriately. (Unlike ios that just zooms to the existing flow.)

Meta tags are not the right approach. It's better to add an appropriate @media declaratin the stylesheet. Also pixel widths aren't portable AT ALL anymore (not that they ever were but it was easy to pretend)

Hey, it's just a quick bandaid since most sites are laid out in pixels anyhow. But if somebody wants to come up with a mobile stylesheet, that's cool too.

In fact, it appears that most of our themes are laid out by pixel, so I'd say just go for it until someone gets a chance to re-do all of the CSS.

Or ignore users in favor of maintaining the technical purity of our stock themes. :)

Most sites are stupid.

Why does the OS determine this and not the app?

Because it's a function of the built-in web browser. And if you don't like the built-in web browser on Android, you can always install another one.

I mean on iOS. I've tried various browsers and they don't rewrap the text.

Weird. Maybe none of the browser devs for iOS have realized that it's a great feature? (Since when does Apple even let alternate browsers into App Store, anyway?)

On Android the built-in browser (which is just called "Browser" and Google makes great pains to say that it ISN'T CHROME) only rewraps if you zoom by double-tap, not by pinch. I think Dolphin lets you rewrap on pinch zooms though.

The theme I'm using right now is a little better.

But fluffy, this isn't the platform from which to punish non-droid-believers. Not cool.

I'm punishing people by mentioning a neat feature that I'm surprised isn't on other platforms? Man, that's some serious insecurity.

I think you've phrased it just right. Features should be freely stolen and cross-bred. That's how competition makes things better. I'd be on the Android wagon in a minute if only...whatever...

Allow me to clarify: We just want things working nicely on whatever device we're using and we don't care how it's accomplished. Everything else is irrelevant.

For example:

And:

In summary:

Hey, all I'm saying is that browser-specific meta tag hacks are bad, stylesheets are good, and mobile user agents should try to make the user's life easier. Sorry that's so contentious.

Indeed, fluffy. And we love you for your unwavering principals.

Now, seriously, can we get some mobile enhancements? If somebody gives me access I'll gladly volunteer my effort.

I could look into it but I'm kind of in NYC right now. Sorry for thinking of general solutions while I'm distanced from anything resembling adequate server access.

Holy crap, I had no idea what I was starting. Punish 'em, Fluffy. Punish the pod people hard.
As far as the reflow goes, Android 2.2 does reflow even if you pinch to zoom.
As for the original question, I have never used TapaTalk or whatever, as there are no forums on it that I am interested in.
Is it better/easier than just using the browser? Would there be a point to it? The problem may just be that I have never seen more than 1 bar of signal since I moved here.

Just stirring the pot :) The whole forum feels kind of outdated, anyway, and a mobile interface is only part of that. If I make a CSS or two can it be included in themes?

Sure, although I'm not sure what it takes to make a full phpBB theme anymore. I was going to just see if there were any existing mobile-friendly phpBB themes out there, or how hard it'd be to add an appropriate @media declaration to the existing ones (since really it's dumb to have to switch themes whenever you change devices).
