Happy St. Patty's Day to all!

(And especially me, as I married a wee Irish lass 6 years ago today. Happy Anniversary! )

Ah, good articles. And I see Guinness is on sale for $3.88 a 4-pack downtown. Looks like I'll be taking a trip on my lunch break.
Gotta take it easy though, I'm playing at a boiled dinner this evening. And I only know, maybe, six Irish songs. Any last-minute tips on easy Irish drinking songs would be appreciated.

Erin go bragh!

PS: And happy anniversary to you and yours, Niv. May the road rise up to meet you, and all that. :)

Well, Sober's Driving is a good one, and his Thanks For Coming would be a good closer.

Happy anniversary Niv. If you've got two reasons to drink, do you drink twice as much?

You can't go wrong with Whiskey in the Jar. Sober does a great Farewell to Nova Scotia.

If you're any way familiar with the tunes, this is a good reference: http://www.ireland-information.com/iris ... -midis.htm. And by "good reference" I mean "midi hell", but it's enough to jog the memory.

What does playing at a boiled dinner entail? Will folks be drunk?

Niv=teetotaler. But if my wedding reception is any indication, the answer is yes. Libations flowed double hard that night.

There will be plenty of drinking, I'm sure. It's at the Cannon Mountain View Motel's restaurant/bar in Franconia, NH, and they're doing a special St. Patrick's Day dinner.
I'm gonna check out Sober's songs, thanks for the tip. I don't know why I didn't think of that. His 'Brown Boxes' is a favorite of mine.

Yah, "Driving," definitely. You could also try telling the crowd that you're playing Irish rap songs by Sir McSalot (think, brogue: Ah, me posse's on Broadway). I'm probably spending my Thursday evening drinking somewhere between Portsmouth and Dover, but that's already almost an hour's drive north. If you were a little closer I'd try and come by for the show. Still, one of these days I'm gonna have to make the trek.

At the hosptial I work at, there are usually 3-5 staff call in sick per day. Today? Almost twenty! Fucking lightweights can't handle their booze. Bah!!! Bah I say!!!

I played until after midnight, drove an hour home, and still got to work at 7:30 this morning, hangover and all.
Good thing it's a desk job, though. If I had to, say, hang drywall or something... well, it probably wouldn't stay dry. Oo, that's gross.

Yeah, the number of true Irishmen drops off sharply around 7am every March 18th.

Me, I'm still drunk.

Was there a tribute to Sober in there?

My mum used to be a nurse. One night she went drinking and got rather drunk. Slept for an hour. Went and worked in the operating room the next morning with the other people she'd been drinking with. Then an entire early shift nursing a hangover. Gotta love British healthcare in the 80s ;)

So I hope no one forgot what day it is!

I was gonna have Bailey's in my coffee to start things right, but it turns out I don't drink coffee. So it'll have to be Guinness.

Also, for those of you stuck in an office, here's some timely advice.

Also also, happy anniversay, Niv!!!

Happy St. Pat's! Happy anniversary Niv!

Tonight I'm playing a dinner show at the Farmhouse Tavern in Franconia, NH. It's more of an early dinner thing than a drunken row, but I'm sure we all know that all St. Patrick's Days end more or less the same way.

Tomorrow I'm at the Wildcat Inn and Tavern, and that one will be more of a Guinness-fueled event.

My wife says I'm Irish by marriage for this St. Patrick's Day, so I can really celebrate now ;)
(I'm also a bunch of other things by marriage now too, very confusing).
Happy Anniversary, Niv!

If you are still looking for Irish Drinking songs, I suggest the Rugburns' Killkenny Man. I can't find an mp3 of it, but if you can, go for it.
