A Conversation
by Caravan Ray and Moses

It started with a conversation
Between a serpent and a woman
The man said nothing
The man just did what he was told
And the Lord God said to the woman
What is this
That you have done?

(Genesis 3:13)

I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you
...
Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life

(Genesis 3:16-17)

My God is a vengeful God
My God is a jealous God
My God is an angry God
My God is a capricious God

The Lord God had another conversation
He told Abraham "I want you to kill me a son"
And the man said nothing
Abraham said nothing
The man said nothing
He just planned to do what he was told
And the Lord God said "Unbind that child, I'm joking"
It's just a bit of fun"

If the Lord God commands you
Be sure to heed his bid
But get it down in writing first
Just like Moses did

A Conversation- Paco del Stinko

I'm talking to myself, but I don't listen
Even though I hear what I say, there's something missing
I open my mouth up wide, and I start to talk
Like a woman at a beauty salon, I just don't stop

It needs to go both ways, it needs to go both ways
Like a swing on a porch

I'm gabbing away, but you don't hear me
Although lots of words come out, it ain't too clearly
I haven't stopped since '72, in kindergarten
One day you'd think I'd shut up, but I ain't even started

It needs to go both ways, it needs to go both ways
Like the flicker of a flame on a torch

But it's all one sided - I need some two way flow
What happened to the other point - in a lopsided convo

I'm in a discussion, with only me
I really don't know what I'm talking 'bout, but I still speak
I answer every query I have, with a riddle
And when I answer that, I offer very little

It needs to go both ways, it needs to go both ways
Like Tattoo, to O'Rourke

A Conversation
by Jon Eric

They built a multiplex, they built a roller rink
But the more they tried to grow their town, the more it seemed to shrink
They fought a fate they'd always thought they could avoid
There were fewer open jobs than unemployed

I'm back from college, but I'm not sure why I went
Life is hard out there and parents don't charge rent
Money's tough to get, and tougher still to hold
Since the downtown smokestacks went cold

And I don't know if this is life, or a poor man's imitation
But being born in this town is walking in on a conversation
The moment it turns awkward.

His eyes are flicking round the room
And he's trying not yawn
She's paid for another drink for him
But it's already been too long
As he tries to grab his coat
And make excuses for himself
She babbles on about the dream she had last night
and about her mother's health

The gold swings from her wrist
As she talks about her starsign, "What's yours?"
He's trying to be nice, but it's so hard to be nice,
When all he's really thinking is

This conversation's not going anywhere
Anywhere else would be a better place to be
He wants to say his goodbyes now
Surely he's not the only one to see
That this conversation's going round and round and
Round to hers, he'd really rather not
Everyone knows that talk is cheap
But some things just cannot be bought

But he keeps his mouth shut as she slides him
Another expensive beer
Her anecdotal stories
Making seconds feel like years
And her teacher back in second grade
She didn't like; she made her scared
He smiles and nod, but in his head
He doesn't care, doesn't care, doesn't care,
doesn't care, doesn't

Want to stick around
Or he might just go insane
He's trying to be nice, but it's so hard to be nice
When all he's really thinking is

This conversation's not going anywhere
Anywhere else would be a better place to be
He wants to say his goodbyes now
Surely he's not the only one to see
That this conversation's going round and round and
Round to hers, he'd really rather not
Everyone knows that talk is cheap
But some things just cannot be bought

A Conversation by Jan Krüger (RealUmlaut)

I've been thinking to myself
Who I want to be, who I want to be
There's this question in the back of my mind
Back where I can't see, back where I can't see

A conversation without words is taking place
Connections being made, in many ways
It feels like nothing I've ever felt before
And I don't worry anymore

I've been looking at your face, and now I understand
Who I want to be, who I want to be
Things are smoothing out and I think that it was me
You say you feel free, you really do feel free

A conversation without words was taking place
Connections being made, in many ways
It feels like nothing that you've ever felt before
And you don't worry anymore

Two down, seven billions left to go
We'll make them see, we'll make them see

A Conversation by Berkeley Social Scene

Let’s talk, let’s really hash this thing out
Extract some meaning from this mountain of doubt
Your facts have turned from solid to gas
We need momentum first to chart this impasse

A conversation means that both of us talk
Don’t need your lecture, I know it’s not all my fault
Communicating about what’s wrong and what’s right
Might mean the difference between a kiss and a fight

Flap your gums, let’s get this bird in the air
Talking things over might just start the repair
Honesty might be a friend unfamiliar
Once your words come back from an Indian giver

A conversation means that both of us talk
Don’t need your lecture, I know it’s not all my fault
Communicating about what’s wrong and what’s right
Might mean the difference between a kiss and a fight

Do you assume because something could
It inevitably will?
If you start with a fallacy
will it all go downhill?
If the solution for many
worked best for the one
Could you change it
and therefore change the outcome?

Spit it out, your spiteful retort
confused positions that you’re poised to distort
You’re leaning on meaning and meaningless rhyme
The lies you construct will unravel in time

A conversation means that both of us talk
Don’t need your lecture, I know it’s not all my fault
Communicating about what’s wrong and what’s right
Might mean the difference between a kiss and a fight

Sir, can you help me? There's no one here who can
Been here for so long that I've forgotten who I am.
Give me an hour, give me the sky,
give me a lifetime, won't you give me an alibi

I hear you talking but you don't know what to say
I know you're writing letters telling me why you're not here today
I know this conversation don't have nowhere to go
So when you leave, I'll just keep this conversation close

Still you're talking til your tongue starts to bleed
telling me why, and all those why you can'ts
making up things- those things you need to say
just to keep the silence away

A Conversation by Suckweasel

You say we don't talk enough
But when I try to call your bluff
You're never in the mood
You say, "We'll talk later on."

I back up and take another tack
I always have the perfect knack
Of saying something to you
That's always wrong

I don't want a conversation
Don't want to talk about it
I don't want a conversation
Baby let's get it on

You say you want a compromise
Then you hand me a pack of lies
What you mean by "compromise"
Is you get what you want

Sick of all this idle chatter
It doesn't even really matter
You never even listen
To a word I say

I don't want a conversation
Don't want to talk about it
I don't want a conversation
baby let's get it on

I’m just listening for a conversation;
An A/B for me to see my way into rotation.
Daily I hear things on my radio station,
Cognitive distortion to leverage placation,
Giving me an awful damn strong indication,
That “hungry, hungry hippos” never come to cessation.
Since I’m smack-dab-in-the-middle-of that sort of nation,
I wanted to suggest we could work on more punctilious patience…
Instead of working from regret,
Just for a little while, let’s find out what we can get.
A much nicer way of life, I imagine… Whatcha bet?
The way things are now, you only get to choose exactly how to be in debt.
Never to whom or to what degree does your input help to set,
They want to give you just enough rope to ensure that, above all else, their needs are met.
I’m just listening for a conversation. I’m just listening for a conversation.

A Conversation

By Steve Durand

We have a problem
Communicating
There's a different tongue In every land

But when it comes to
Making music
It's a language we all understand

So join me
And we'll have a conversation

It's hard to get your point across
When you don't understand a word
But when our voices join in song
Somehow we all can get along

So if you're waiting
For toleration
It isn't going to happen soon

But you can always
Express your feelings
Through the magic of a simple tune

So join me
And we'll have a conversation

A CONVERSATION

BILLY and the PSYCHOTICS
*******

It's getting old now, down to the wire
why try to breathe new life into the dead balloon?
you knew it was gonna play out this way -
but you lit right back up to play the game

you wanna talk now,
you don't remember how
proud you smiled back
in the summer time;
acting like you'd arrived, like the high was your birthright
…and here we are tonight.. well,

CH
By all means!
lets take the time to have a conversation -
and get real deep
into the thick of it
and pick apart the reasons why
you don't think you're gonna die

rise into the clouds;
it's what you do when the world gets too loud
responsibility weighs way too much,
so straight to the brain vein for liquid lunch

CH/BR
run away...nobody's
gonna chase you
you're safe
[there's no running
from a conversation
a confrontation
on the inside]
you're safe from yourself..now

maybe it's like we're falling off a ledge
i could back away… i could let your hand slip
i know you would do it if i was on the other end...
but i'm not that kind of friend
