Pearl and the Beard

Went to an Ani Difranco concert on Friday evening. Ani was, of course, sensational, but just as good - and I don't say that lightly - was the opening band: Pearl and the Beard. Three tremendously talented artists from Brooklyn that paint these awesome swathes of vocal harmony under pinned with not but a cello, a tinkling xylophone, a kick, a snare and a guitar. A-freaking-mazing.

Put it another way: when they wrapped up their set, my wife immediately turned to each other and went "We must buy their music," traipsed over to their table in the lobby and bought their whole catalog in one fell swoop. (Well, okay, their "whole" catalog is two albums and an EP, but hey...)
