Collected recording/mastering advice thread

I know, what happens on IRC stays on IRC, but last night, Jan posted a link to a comment in
an incredibly informative thread on the Reaper forum that's full of great advice on how to make your recordings not sound like ass. Most of it is material that's been covered on this forum but it's nice to see it all in one place, and with a level of depth into the raw mechanics that I haven't seen here.

Wow, he is really presenting it very detailed in an easy way to understand for people that know just enough to be dangerous. I like that he is pushing hard on the fact that you need to train your ears and learn to trust them. That's how an engineer develops a signature style. We need our studio tools, but we need our human senses to be trusted and trained to their peak ability to get the best result.
Also, I bookmarked the link Jon posted. I watched a few of his vids. That is some audio technician GOLD! I suggest everyone on SF to bookmark that site and refer to it as needed. Because as you learn, you really don't know what you need until you need it, right?
