Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round One
I did get my "welcome to round one" mail. So if I missed it by 34 seconds that's going to be my least favorite number now for a while! Either way, I think the moral of this story is that I need to NOT do this crap anymore (by which I mean ride the deadline) or I'm going to ronko all over my computer from the stress of it all. :S

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round One
So, since this round doesn't really count, what do you guys think about announcing the next title right now?
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round One
If one person out of 20 accidentally starts a song and then finds out he/she is immune, is that so bad?

Just sent my entry, despite completing it on Thursday I forgot to actually send it in. Hopefully the judges will let it slide this time

I'd love to let Adam in, but I would hate to see someone eliminated when they met the deadline. My humble suggestion is to let him in and pass 21 on to round 2.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round One
Helpful reminder: If you get your song done early, it doesn't hurt to submit it twice or more, in case you want to listen for a few more days/hours and make some tweaks.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round One
Hi guys, here is my reviews of most of the songs. I've put them roughly in the order I would have ranked them if I were a judge. I'll try and do the last five tomorrow but it is getting a bit late right now. Some really good songs this round. I liked pretty much every song so awesome work everyone.
Carlo Bruno Jr - This is pretty damn cool on so many levels. I love this song.
Governing Dynamics - The guitar in this is really fucking cool. The guitar at the start of the song has a weird quality about it that I really like. This is a great song. Kinda reminds me of a Jimmy Eat World song. Nice man, nice.
WreckdoM - I really like the imagery of the lyrics in this song and the music adds a lot of atmosphere. I feel like I'm being drawn into a world you have created. Love it.
Chokehold Princess - This is brilliant. Is that you making the goat noises with your mouth? I thought the lyrics were clever and fun. I really enjoy this song.
The Tydon Docks - Haha, sounds very aussie. I liked the atonal guitar parts and the whole song is a lot of fun. I want to have a drunk sing-along to this song. Name dropping Tubz was a nice touch.
Frankie Big Face - This was one of the only songs this round that really rocked. I appreciate that. The waltz bits were pretty cool. I like this song.
Adam Adamant - This is a happy little tune and has a nice little quirky quality about it. Lovely.
DJ Ranger Den - I like your voice. This was a really interesting song. Very sultry.
Cavedwellers - Wow, this is really impressive. All the instruments are played well and it all comes together to be a really slick production that sounds great. I'm kind of blown away at how well this is produced for just five days - this sounds like a full-on studio recording that a lot of time has been spent on. The song itself doesn't really grab me but I love the music.
Jon Eric - I like the 'Meanwhile on Earth' lyric and the singing in the chorus. This song has a kind of classic feel to it. Like a Billy Joel song. Not a big fan of the 'Dear Jon in the mirror' line. Seems kind of cliched. Other than that, I quite like this song.
Balance Lost - I think this is a really pretty tune and it is soothing to listen to. It sounds like a song to play for babies at nap time. Actually, I'd be really happy if you played this for me while I was going to sleep. PM me if that is something you might be interested in.
Boffo Yux Dudes - Love that very first guitar lick. Not generally a big fan of Country and Western vocals and so this song didn't really do it for me. The lyrics didn't strike me as particularly original either. I do like the guitar and the music is well done.
Dani House - Acordians! Yes please. I could waltz to this.
Tubba Gutz - I wasn't a big fan of your round 0 entry but this was far better. I like this song - an enjoyable listen. Looks like I'll be taking your spot at the bottom of the pack. Thanks for keeping it warm for me.
Inflatable Vegetables - A nice little silly song. Not the deepest or most interesting song in the world but still a bit of fun.

Just an advance warning to the competitors: your scores this round will be subconsciously affected (either positively or negatively) by how much I like (or dislike) whichever Beatles song each of you chose to rip off.

I won't say anything specific about any particular songs -- just making a general observation about a very popular trend this time around.
To clarify: for all the folks who are ripping off one or more Beatles songs in their submissions, the more blatant it is, the more you should be hoping I really like that particular Beatles song.
Better?
