So, yesterday I got fired for weblogging, even though my company had previously stated that my weblog was fine (and had been screening posts for objectionable content); basically they got a threat from Nintendo about some of the stuff I said about the DS. (But we weren't even working on the DS anymore anyway. And now they're retroactively claiming that some of my work-related posts were NOT fine after all and so it's breach of contract! Go figure.)

So, live and learn, I guess.

(I was getting ready to quit anyway.)

So. Does anyone know of any interesting job openings at their various businesses? Most of my work experience has been in programming but I could also do video and music stuff as well (I recorded all the music and sound effects for the game which was going to ship next week but will probably be shipping later because they are suddenly ONE VITAL PROGRAMMER SHORT), and really I'm trying to get out of the programming world anyway. It's a fun hobby, but not what I want to do for a living (and hasn't been for a long time).

In the meantime I'm looking for temp/contract-type work in the New York metro area. Yay for Craigslist.

In Canada, that would be a wrongful dismissal. No warnings? Previously posts were fine? I hope they gave you a decent, nay, a hefty severance package.

You don't APPEAR to be pissed about it.. seems more .. I dunno, happy. But I got no job offers you'd be interested in (cleaning fish pays $11 bucks an hour to start... Canadian... but it IS a nice island....)

Still, good luck to you!

I agree with Leaf, call your lawyer.

Yeah, I don't have a lawyer, but another former employee (who quit, but is possibly going to get bilked out of some royalties they owe him) referred me to the lawyer he's seeing, so. Probably.

This could be a very very ugly news story- "Fired because of blog". If that doesn't scream out "A Current Affair", I don't know what does.

I'm far from the first, and probably far from the last.

"Blogger" is the new "hacker."

Speaking your mind is a dangerous hobby. Apparantly the perceived size of the audience is directly proportional to the danger. And apparantly it's not your perception that matters. I hate it when employers don't stick up for their own.

Yeah, but oh well. This gave me the little kick I needed to start actively searching jobs, and I'm already getting a LOT of interesting responses from recruiters. So.
