Clever lyrics. Sadly, I think that is going to happen a lot this time around. Not sure why that is sad. Probably knowing I will overdose on twee and swag and yolos. Anyway, I got a little distracted in the middle, then the bridge got my attention for a second, then I drifted off again, but then the solo started, and I liked it. Off to a good start ...

It's funny how I yell fuck all the time, but songs with the word "bitch" in them kind of annoy me. This isn't annoying me any longer, since the vocal style amuses the hell out of me once again, and many of the rhymes are clever. I really can't say more than that it's good, and I may not have decent speakerage so I am not hearing as much bass as I would expect. I am terrible for saying this, but I am poor at the hip hops.

Cookie Blue
This week's title demanded this song, and you nailed it. Lyrics not overly clever, almost but not quite serious, unadorned and up front vocals. I can imagine a bit of time could go into some middle eight goof, but I think I just was surprised when it was over. Neat.

Drum Season
Klownhole === Drum Season wannabe. I want to listen to Klaatu, Jethro Tull, but also Sleep and Clutch. Also, the original Jesus Christ Superstar record set, with Ian Gillan. And Deep Purple, most of all. We have an SM57 you should use to replace the overhead that I assume is the reason the cymbals are so ... present. Ralph broke it, probably by hitting it too much. That might happen to you, and I wouldn't mind. I don't like your brassy bits. Otherwise, this is my first strong upvote, in spite of my passive aggression issues just there. I love everything else about this song.

I definitely appreciate this. I favor the instrumental and the chorus mix overall. The high head vocal (especially when doubled) doesn't work as well for me, but at the same time, I think it fits with the song. Could be some tweaking of the mix would help me, but probably not the song. Good one overall.

Before I even start, I wish to shout "MAD DOG KILLER" for the benefit of the half of Klownhole that went to high school with me. That was awesome, you guys.

As for your song, if it is as great as the book report presentation your name evoked, you can collect your prize at the door. The truth is, it was more in line with the skit based on Bless the Beasts and the Children. Ralph and Jason took roles as buffalo.

ANYWAY, song ... I like: The guitar tone. Backing vocals. High vocals, too. Reminds me of things I liked about The Posies without reminding me of how much they irritated me.

Oddly, what is sticking out (on my crappy speakers) is the rhythm guitar way over on the left, standing out of the mix. So ... listening again, and this is groovy. If I tweak it a little, and stop obsessing over that first observation, it all fits together really well.

Shot Pounder: I like the aggressive sound. It's really short, but I guess that fits the genre. Also couldn't understand any of the words other than "drunk season"

Slickitude: Two punk songs in a row! Nothin's punker than drinking. Unless you're straightedge of course. Definitely prefered the harder take from Shot Pounder. This came off a bit mellow for a punk song.

Lou P: Man, really don't like the wet sound you make before each line. Sounds like you're smacking your lips. Otherwise I like the song. Nice piano playing. And the vocals have a nice tone.

Glenny: The movement of the song is great. Lots of cool sounds and instruments. Solo section is a lot of fun. Donno how you can come up with such a complicated structure so quick. Vocals sound strained, but the lyrics are cool.

Wreckdom: Oh no, you got into some of that bad liquor again Freaky stuff, I like it.

You peoples: Cool sounds in the production. Not very tight, but still a good song.

Toby Roktot: I think you'd be better off without the cymbals. Or at least not so up front with them. I like the feel of the bassish acoustic parts.

Odilon Green: Ummm... this is insane Funny stuff.

Paco Del Stinko: I like the twist on drunk "season". I dig the sound.

Cookie Blue: Hard to go wrong with the Irish Drinking song feel on a Drunk theme.

Jeebas Jones: Christmas in April, huh? I like party feel.

Klownhole: I think maybe your moving away from the microphone while you sing? I kinda like the dirty sounding guitar.

Ross Durand: Irish song #2! The recording is nice and clear. And yeah, drunk season never really ends does it?

Zinkline: Rocking track! The vocals doen't sit very well in the mix, but overall a good feel.

Nobody and the No Shows: Unique guitar style. I like the goofiness.

Drum Season: Was expecting nothing but drums with a name like that! Definitely glad to find some cool organ sounds in there. The guitar solo is pretty cool, too.

BSS: Well produced. Very pop.

Tuners Union: I really like the funky parts. Especially the intro. And the bridge part? Where things start to really kick in towards the middle. This is where my vote went.

Big Whatever: Bass is overpowering my headphones. "Rockin' pajama pants with no undies". Haha.

Los Bumbs: Super lofi. Got that acoustic punk feel that's popular with the kids these days.

Ken & Chips: Sonic equivalent of Fried Chicken and cheap beer. Drunk season for sure.

Ok, first review thread ever (after taking out the "too spammy" BBC the review link puts in automatically). I love you all.

I'm not even joking in saying that when I began this song, I thought to myself "This sounds like a song that would have flutes," and then you made my dreams come true. Love the drunk delay at the end.

Cool song. I think you would be well served to maybe do 2 guitar tracks, even if they are the same part, panned left and right. It will really help fill out the sound and give the song more impact.

Another fun one. I want to be around a campfire playing and singing this with my friends. Just really gets me in the mood to drink (in a good way).

The title demanded a genre piece like this, I thought. I'm laughing more than I thought I'd be with these tracks, and it's not even a bad thing. The instrumentation is wonderful here.

It's like the Arctic Monkeys got Mike Patton to sing. I'm really, really diggin this. Such an awesome riff and groove. This is my other favorite this week, for sure. Awesome mix, as well! (edit: I keep coming back to this one in particular. I really, really like this song.)

Of all the submissions, this one feels the best for the title. It's perfect. This is the song that Drunk Season was meant to be. The performance is fantastic and the song is stuck in my head for the rest of the reviews.

ENERGY. I was hit by the Drunk Season truck. Awesome fire on the vocals. Maybe bring the guitars out a little and give the bass a little more definition? Something about the mix doesn't convey the power the song has.

Hooked by the intro bars, really cool. Love the vocal style with the type of music, I think it works really well. The drums, I think, are too loud in the mix. Or the guitars aren't loud enough. I'm not sure. Either way, though, I enjoy the song.

The chorus is not what I was expecting, but I was ok when it got here. After hearing the whole song, I have to say I really like the contrast. And the transition back to minor at the end of each chorus is just so perfect. I smile every time you fall back into the verse. Very nicely written.

Weird to say, but I really like the guitar tones at work here. The guitar parts work together really well. Really cool track. I'm hearing the same lyrics as glenny? Yes, definitely the same. I'm probably missing something here haha.

Broken Social Scene - I dig the rhymes (shot/pot .. bottle/throttle) ... great synth bits. Very good guitarin' throughout - cool solo. Catchy tune too. Good one.

big whatever - I like this quite a lot. Trippy production. Cool lyrics / nice flow. Whatever you are sampling is extremely familiar but my brain will not place it. Which is nice ... it's familiar but you've distorted it enough to keep it from being too obvious. (although it is kind of bothering me now, so can someone name the song so I can listen to the original?)

Cookie Blue - the flute is pretty bad ass. Nice energy/vocals. It reminds me of Neutral Milk Hotel in a way (they are a favorite so that's a big compliment.)

Drum Season - might have been a little less messy with just one drum set! but I am guessing messy is what you're going for here. pretty enjoyable for what sounds like a loose off the cuff jam session. The fast ending was unexpected and rather fantastic.

glennny - I can't seem to dig into on this one. ... until about 50 seconds when it totally changes, that bit is pretty cool. The verse is just too jazzy for me, it sounds almost random. But the horn/guitar back and forth guitar solo bit is quite cool (reminds me of Frank Zappa.) There seems to be about 5 different songs smashed into this one, 2 or 3 of them are really good but I'm thrown off too much by the other parts to really get into it.

Here, Atticus - definitely a change of pace from most of the other tracks here as this one seems like a "serious" song while most of the tunes here are ... not so serious. The vocals are strong (when higher... the low vocal doesn't work as well) and they remind me of James Mercer (The Shins/Broken Bells). I'm not crazy about the piano part but the guitars are good. I like the backing vocals a lot too. I think this song works best during the chorus - strong chorus.

Jeebas James - "'tis the season to be drunkie." Indeed. Nice twisted Christmas feel. I like that it sounds like actual drunkenness is involved with the recording of this one.

Klownhole - Hey, it's not as long as I was thinking it might be. "Chubby squirrels" ... I dig the lyrics. The vocal is pretty good during the "gritty" part. It sounds like you're doing that voice as a joke (maybe because of the lyrics and the sloppy instrumentation with no drums ... speaking of no drums - this song could probably really use drums), but it's actually kind of good in a Joe Cocker sort of way. I'd be curious to hear it on something more earnest.

Los Bumps - I like the atmospherics floating around in the background. Interesting mix of extremely lo-fi sound with some floaty weirdness in the background. It's a catchy little tune but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to it.

Lou P - Nice piano and the vocals are good. Maybe the instrumentation could be a bit louder in the mix. This seems pretty well done but I can't say that it has drawn me into it ... maybe it's a grower.

Nobody and the No Shows - The "bwa bwa badadwa" nonsense vocal at 30 seconds makes the song for me. It seems to sort of meander otherwise, but that's one of my favorite moments of the fight.

Odilon Green - The midi instrumentation kind of drives me insane. Or more insane. The beeps made me take my headphones off. Freaked me out.

Paco del Stinko - Very well done for its style ... but maybe this is the one I have to really pull the "not my thing" card because I think it's pretty much perfectly executed for what it's doing. I do really like the trippy wah guitar around 2 minutes in.

Ross Durand - Pretty good, if a bit sing-songy. Good recording/vocal (particularly when the backing vocal comes in.) Nice payoff with the "drunk season is all year" at the end.

ShotPounder - Tight - well done punk rock sound. 58 seconds even with a 10 second fade-out.

Slickitude - There's some really catchy stuff in here but it all goes by so fast, it's hard to hold onto any of it. I really like the little changes in feel when the different parts come in (syncopated vs straight ahead.. and it sounds like triplets on the guitar at the end of some of the parts) ... kind of a punk rock thing but more musically going on than that kind stuff usually has. Nice. It's cool you make this work even with programmed drums which you would think wouldn't work with this kind of deal.

toby roktot - the song itself isn't too bad but the sound of it doesn't really work, the drum machine doesn't sound good with this style (and the mixing is unusual) and the acoustic guitar sounds plugged in. also vocals don't sound like they are sung out enough, sound kind of like you are trying to be quiet because you have neighbors around. this kind of tune needs well recorded acoustic guitar & vocals.

Tuners Union - my favorite song of the week, can't think of a complaint.

Wreckdom - I need to start doing drugs again.

youpeoples - rap doesn't fit with beat very well.

Zack Facco - I like the '60s sort of vibe that I'm getting from this. Cool song. Vocals could be a bit stronger but they aren't too bad.

Zinkline - I like how rough & ready this sounds while still staying pretty tight. Definitely rock n roll.

Raucous Hobo-Hop. Or is it Hip-Hobo? I think it would require a "beat" and you didn't "drop the bass", but I believe you "pumped up the jam" or whatever it is. Can I call the one vocalist "MC Bindlestick" from now on? Short and complete exploration of the idea. I really am excited about train tramp rap. When they make a movie about it, I think it's a cinch you are going to want Matthew McConaughey in it, doing his Mud character. "I ain't no bum. I got money, boy. You can call me a hobo, 'cause a hobo will work for his living ... "

Funny, until this started, I hadn't noticed I still haven't heard a country song, which this song isn't I suppose, but the voice could live in a country song comfortably. Drunk Season should have a country song, just as it should have an Irish drinking song, piles of acoustic guitars, and probably some Tom Waits wannabes (that's the bait I took). In any case, I am not sure why I decided early that this isn't country ... it would work best as a country song, but I think it doesn't go whole hog for the stereotype, which is probably for the best.

I would care for an AC/DC cover of this, somehow. Perhaps not a 5+ min cover, unless maybe it's on a live album. As it is, it is fine, with some nifty riffing. Sounds like it was more fun to play at this length than I found it was to listen to, which isn't so much a complaint or criticism, but more of a way of avoiding saying it was too long for me.
