Circle of Titles IV
Hi everyone! It seems we've settled into a groove of doing this at or near the end of Nur Ein, so I'm going to set this up so that we'll all be able to turn in these songs just after this year's Ein is crowned.
Here are the rules, for anyone who's never done this before:
1.) Everyone who wants in announces their intention to participate. (Or not; if you want to surprise us, that's cool with me)
2.) Each participant thinks up a title and submits it to me.
2a.) Please do not make your title purposely nonsensical or difficult for the recipient.
3.) I randomize stuff up so that each person gets someone else's title, and send those back.
4.) Each person records a song for the title they get.
5.) At the end, the songs will be posted, along with the revelation of who submitted what title.
6.) Titles are then up for grabs for whoever wants extra credit. Also, there will be an opportunity to for others to step up and record songs for the "stiffees."
7.) For the record, I'll be participating, too. Yes, that's a little unfair. Get over it.
Here's my thinking for this year's schedule: Get the titles to me by the end of the month (May 31, one minute prior to midnight).
I'll randomize the titles and assign them in the first couple of days of June, and they'll be due on Sunday, June 15 (one minute prior to midnight).
Who's in?
Participating so far:
Jon Eric
Paco del Stinko
fluffy
Nick Soma
Bad Boys at Bat Mitzvahs
Heuristics, Inc.
Caravan Ray
Zack Facco
Cookie Blue

Re: Circle of Titles IV
Awesome! I'm happy to see a newcomer joining the fun, too! I've intentionally scheduled this so that if you make it to the Nur Ein finals, you'll still have a week after your Round 7 song is done for working on this one. Sort of a "Victory Lap" for the people who did well.
Also, I wanted to thank Mike Lamb for stepping up and running Circle of Titles III while my life was... let's just say I was in a certain state of tumult. He took the initiative to run this sidefight last year, which drove home for me the point that you guys seem to like this as one of the regular fights, so I'm happy to keep on doing it. Thanks, Mike!

Well all right, sign me up. Maybe with a bit of pressure I'll actually deliver something. It worked last year, though there was quite a bit of delay. This time I have much more persistent access to recording equipment, though. Fingers crossed.

Note: I had a job a long time ago, right after high school, and worked with a kid named Eric. His father was from Russia or Poland or someplace like that. When he came to visit Eric one day, we were all sure that he called Eric haddock, likely from his thick accent. So a less than typical nickname was born. Or spawned, I suppose.

Also, the resemblance is striking:

Oh, I just did that so I could submit my title. No whoop. Who is that guy? From the cartoon with the dog and the bald looking boy? Uh, Zip-Zip? TinTin? But yeah. Slap on your sailor hat and you're good to go!

You found your way there eventually, yeah. Tintin. The character is Tintin's friend and adventuring companion, Captain Archibald Haddock.

Re: Circle of Titles IV
I saw Level Nivelo post this on FB recently - has an interesting observation about people who call themselves "Jon" - rather than "John".
http://www.buzzfeed.com/summeranne/gentle-lucases
“Can we talk about Johns vs. Jons?”
“Johns are so fucking hot.”
“So true.”
“I literally love Johns and I know a Jon who SUCKS SO MUCH.”
“I had a horrible experience with a Jon and I feel like it was because he didn’t have an ‘h.’”
I don't know if that was a scientific study or anything - but it sounds pretty convincing
...but yeah - I'll be in the song thing.

Re: Circle of Titles IV
When I started this thread, I had no idea that it would turn into a treatise on my name.
Anecdotally, I've heard the opposite - that people react more favorably to people without the H in their name. But of course, being who I am, my observations have a pretty obvious sampling bias. On the other hand, so do yours.
Maybe I should just start going by George or something.

"Jon" is short for "Jonathan." "John" isn't short for anything. "Jack" is, somehow, short for "John."

Reminder: I'm keeping it open for people to announce their intent to participate and/or send me titles through the end of this weekend. If you want in, get me a title by Sunday night! Also, if your name has an asterisk next to it, that means you've announced your intent to participate, but you haven't sent me a title yet. Get on it!

Title sent.
And as with last year, I chose the title of an actual song that was massive local hit in the 1970s - but would be completely unknown outside of Australia

I'm still missing a couple of titles, so I'll give those participants a day or two to catch up before I start handing out your assignments. I'll adjust the schedule accordingly.

Thank you, everyone!
The titles have been assigned! Let me know if you were planning on playing, but have yet to receive a PM from me with a title.

Re: Circle of Titles IV
Thanks, Jon! I sure got a great title, I'll try to do it justice! Procrastinated the last couple of fights, but I'll make this a priority.
