When we get it?

The site update process is people powered, so, the new title goes up after "Deep Throat" (the anonymous source of titles) provides the fightmasters with an acceptable new title, and the fightmasters have time to update the site with the new title info.

Also, it is a "title", not a "prompt", but, I thought that had been covered pretty thoroughly elsewhere...

Cool so, tomorrow? :)

Title is the prompt, the prompt is the title. Finkle is Einhorn, Einhorn, Finkle.

The rules are that you are to write a song that has the title provided. NOT that is merely inspired by it. Disqualification is at the discretion if the Fightmaster.

That said, I now move this thread to Monkey Business.

Not to be contrarian - but I have long been frustrated by this distinction, and occasionally criticized for agreeing with you in my reviews. Here is what the FAQ say

"a brand new song inspired by one of these titles,"

Perhaps this should be edited if your interpretation (which I agree with) is the official position of the fight masters.

Respectfully yours,

Me

I am gonna jump into this guys camp right away.

I am all about making the posting process as seamless as possible for the fightmasters, and by labeling the files as such - it done

But from an artistic standpoint I disagree with having the have the title of the song being preset, it closes way more doors than it opens

All these years, I thought the whole point was to use the title.

Who knew I was doing it wrong.

Jesus. If you want to write a song without having your artistry limited, then think of a title and write a song -- you know, the way everyone else in the world does it. Post it on one of a million other sites.

If you want to participate in Song Fight, write a song using the title posted. It's really that simple.

I'm with Irwin (and probably a whole lot of other people here): that's the whole point of Song Fight.

1. Closing doors is the whole point. This competition is about inspiring creativity through the restriction of possibility.
2. You're not in Ross's camp. He is disagreeing with the FAQ, which is poorly worded, and wants it changed. You are agreeing with the FAQ.
3. "This dude" is Ross, and he's a long-time SF veteran and a masterful songwriter. Look him up in the archives.
4. Many people through the years have found themselves UNBLOCKED because we remove the "blank page" from their process. We put things on that blank page-- a title, and a deadline.

I'm gonna change the FAQ post-haste, didn't realize we had that in there.

Oh and also? This is not up for debate. I mean, you can go ahead and debate it, that's fine. But it's not changing. So just proceed with your eyes open.

Ok that's done. FAQ now states "written expressly for".

Under "What do I get if I win?" it currently reads "Bragging rights." Can you change that to "$10,000?"

Then what are you doing here? That's what we do. Do you go to McDonald's and try to order pizza, too?

Has Deep Throat ever provided an unacceptable title? And if so, do the same rules apply?

Deep Throat is a generally unacceptable human being.

I'm guessing this hasn't happened.

I've always privately thought that DT got peer-pressured into the Rockapalousa one.

DT has peers? I always pictured DT as an evil magic mirror that screams out titles in the middle of the night and bleeds when the fight is over.

(I've been listening to too much Nightvale again)

I've always thought DT was Linda Lovelace. But she still does all the stuff Niv just mentioned as well.

That's not my point at all.

A title is supposed to summarize the 'why' of the song. Why are you singing me this song? Why should I care? Etc. these are questions that the listener is asking themselves while they decide if they want to give your work attention or not.

For instance last week, on a scale of one to ten.

Sure when I started my worksheet at the top in big bold letters I had it written 'on a scale of one to ten'. When I was finished the scale ended up being a literary device to describe how The narrator felt about a woman he longed for. I could have stuck with the title, but it would not have given anyone insight to what the song was about. The song was about his 'lovely obsession'. This is my point.

But it's cool man, songwriting is a personal method that we develop within ourselves. We can not see eye to eye at all but still be able to speak effectively within he medium and I respect that.

Lol, who 'eats' at McDonalds? I wouldn't quite call that 'food' they are serving.

I must disagree! "Pestilence, Carcass and Death at Skoochies" was a great title! (Especially since I shared a win with Paco.) ;)
