And a different mike, with what I have to offer, does this sound better on your system?

How close are you to the microphone? How high do you have the gain turned up?

I ask because it sounds tinny to me, as if you are too far away and had to turn the mic up too far in order to get a sound-- increasing the hiss.

There is also a lot of artifacting in your mp3-- the "noise" sounds all wavery and phasey and weird.

Upload a WAV.

I'm also hearing a lot of hiss, and it's pretty tinny. The warbling doesn't sound like mp3 artifacting to me, so much as maybe the guitar is moving around with respect to the microphone. Anyway, the mp3 is VBR at 305Kbps average so unless the encoder is REALLY BAD I doubt mp3 artifacts would be audible.

What's your input chain right now, Hillbilly? Have you tried increasing the gain on the mixer and so on? Post a picture of your mixer where we can see all the knobs and sliders.
