When I first saw the trailer for this tv series, I rolled my eyes. I thought it would get boring fast. But every week I find myself laughing hard and surprised. Bill Forte is hilarious and Kristen Schaal plays the rule abiding vegan so well and hilarious as the straight man woman.
It's important to watch this series from the first episode.

I was really disappointed in the second episode, because I wanted much more of the first. However, the way the show has developed from episode to episode has been good, and I'm still watching.

That's funny, I also wanted it to go at least a couple more episodes like the first one. But they decided to just jump right into it I guess. At first I was all, awww man, this is not what I signed up for! I'm ok with their decision now.

I hate that I like this show as much as I do. It's so dumb, yet so much fun.

Phil is a dick! .....that is all.

I think there's an interesting theme going on where Phil is pretty much destined to always be alone, regardless of whether he's around people or not. It was sort of implied in the first episode that he never really had much in the way of friends (just casual acquaintances who never really cared about him), and he is pathologically unable to be a reasonable human being and this ends up driving everyone away from him even though he's who brought everyone together in the first place.

Also, he's an idiot for settling in Tucson (no water, very little in the way of sustainable natural resources, etc.), but it's where he was from before the apocalypse and I guess he hates change or something. The fact that everyone else stays in Tucson too is bizarre. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season everyone else gets a clue and moves somewhere that it'd be easier to cultivate plants and so on, and they leave Phil behind and he is, once again, the last man on Earth.

That's a pretty believable synopsis. And I've also wondered why Arizona. Sure, they can live on canned goods and dry goods for a long time. But I'd want to be close to water.
And it bugs me now how wasteful Phil is. At first it was fun. I can live with him burning up the cart full of toilet paper, but all of those bottles of booze he broke at the bar! Booze doesn't grow on trees! What about the rum?! And who's going to clean up that mess? You know Phil won't. So you're right, I too want to leave Phil!

Oh, and I wonder if they'll find a house with PV Solar electric. It would be awesome if they see lights on in a house at night and think it's more people but it's just that the people left the lights on when they "disappeared". Then instead of just moving into that house, Phil does his usual Philism and the next scene is him stuffing all the solar panels into his SUV and then installing them terribly on his house. ....with duct tape.

Which reminds me, where are all the dead people? He talks to god a lot, are they going to have a rapture episode?

Another theory I had this morning is that they're actually the ones who died of the virus, and they're in hell (or some sort of afterlife). That's why more and more people are showing up, and why there aren't any corpses. Phil was the first to die (and hell is Tucson).

Tucson is hell. It's funny cuz it's true.

...BUT, without all the racist bigots? Maybe not so bad.

It's a little unfortunate that all of the survivors so far are (mostly-)white, cisgender heterosexuals. I mean it's hinted that the two newcomers (one of whom is at least mixed-race, and dark enough for Phil to be casually-racist about) at least experimented with lesbianism to pass the time but eh.

Oh also the hell theory came to me in a dream this morning. Yes I had a dream about this goddamn show. What the crap.

@fluffy. That's funny about your dream. Remember when Phil had to clean up the toilet pool? I was getting so bugged by the way he was doing it and kept getting it all over himself then falling in it, I had a dream that same night. I was there and Phil was somehow my brother in-law Dave and I told him he was wasting his time because he needs to drain it first and I went out to my truck get my sump pump, then I woke up somewhere between walking out of the gate and getting to my truck. I could see my truck parked at the curb in front of my bro in-laws house as I walked towards it. I woke up annoyed. Probably because he does everything so ass backwards that he pisses me off.

Well, the new Phil Miller has mentioned solar electricity, is a great handyman and has all the women admiring him. Todd and Tandy (original Phil) are feeling threatened by new Phil's awesomeness and it's finally happened, their male hunter instincts have kicked in. There is no other option, new Phil has to die, lol.

Of course if Todd and Tandy would just sit back and let nature run it's course, they could have their cake and eat it too. Four strong independent women can't share one man. One will get him locked down and the other three will have to settle. Or they'll end up hating new Phil for accidentally saying the wrong name or similar endearments. etc. Either way, it won't work.

......a great twist would be if new Phil admits he's gay. He looked a little awkward having sex with Carol. An even better twist would be if new Phil and Todd become a couple. Then all of the women are once again stuck with Tandy, lol.

I haven't seen this week's yet but newPhil definitely sets off my gaydar. Or at least I think he's really hot. ;)

As predicted, new Phil made a light turn on with his solar generated electricity for a whole few seconds until Tandy .......well, I don't want to spoil anything, lol.
Well, I never actually said "new Phil" would set up a solar system, but I did say Phil.....sooooo.....yeah. The show still has me laughing every week.

Also, the tickler at the end for new guy coming to the cast. When they panned the camera to his name tag on his shirt, I literally busted out laughing! And it's also great seeing another SNL alum added.

Yikes, the ending.

I wonder why new Phil and the others didn't decide to just move somewhere else and leave old Phil behind. New Phil raised the point about Tucson being horrible for starting a new civilization. Of course, by kicking old Phil out of town that gave Carol the motivation to reconcile with him and set up shop somewhere else, so.....

oh craaaap I bet they end up in Houston and break into NASA.

OOooo! That's a good possibility! I was thinking of a lot of ways that they are going to get the new guy to earth. My ideas involved a crash landing in the desert on those bouncy balloons like the rovers used once. Or at least I think they did. Or a splash down into Lake Mead or somewhere around there. But breaking into NASA makes more sense because they need to communicate with each other and I'm pretty sure NASA controls the capsule in while in orbit, right?

He's on the ISS, which isn't even remotely built for landing. (And it's also not a capsule, and not owned/operated solely by NASA, although in a world where everyone is dead it doesn't matter much, does it?)

Now, I wonder how it is that only the one dude is alive on the ISS. They do keep plenty of rations around and I guess in theory a sole occupant could be sustained for quite some time on it (I think they keep enough on board for the whole crew to last a year), but are the other astronauts dead of the virus, or what?

Presumably there'll be at least one Soyuz capsule (or similar) docked and that's how he'll attempt reentry; at least in real life the ISS always has at least one Soyuz docked as an emergency escape vehicle. Since the show is set in 2020 it's unlikely that the reentry tech will have changed much if at all from today; SpaceX Dragon is doing well as an unmanned resupply ship but it's unpressurized, and Dragon V2 (which will be usable as a manned reentry vehicle) is still years away.

Good to know. But yeah, I don't think exact details are super high on the priority list. heh

Huh, this is timely. I guess they're targeting 2017 for putting the Dragon V2 in service, if all goes well.

Even though the time line is off, it would be cool if Jason Sudeikis does splash down in a Dragon V2.
