What's your favorite Nirvana song? I think mine's Lithium although I also like Heart Shaped Box.

I would've gotten to Nirvana soon enough.

The two that fluffy just listed are both right up there on my list, though.

"The Man Who Sold The World" from Unplugged. Of course, this is a Bowie cover, which makes the song a million times better and should have been listed in the Bowie section, too.

Lithium is awesome! But everything on Never Mind is. It was my epiphany album. So it holds a special place in my heart.

Dive and Aneurysm are also great from their lower budget recordings. I also really love Moist Vagina. not the Nirvana song

I never understood why Nirvana blew up like they did and the Pixies remained at their level of fame. Nirvana just felt like another Pixies like band at the time. I guess Nirvana is a lot prettier than the Pixies, but musically it didn't feel like any new ideas.

All that said, those are some great albums they made. (not as good as say a Pixies album, but good none the less).

I don't think the world, or at least the radio, was ready for the Pixies, who, IMHO, go much deeper than Nirvana ever did.

There are a jillion radio hits that come to mind; "Rape Me" is probably my favorite but it's hard to say. Still, I'll go with a "deep track": the violent and sloppy "Territorial Pissings".

Honorable mentions go to "Verse Chorus Verse", "Sliver" and "Heart Shaped Box". "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle" missed out on being my favorite by a hair.

My favorite Nirvana song is "You Know You're Right".

Their cover of "Lake of Fire" is superb, as is "The Man Who Sold the World". Everything off the Unplugged concert is great, I wish they'd done more of that kinda stuff.
My favorite song written by the band themselves is "Aneurysm"; honorable mentions to "Sliver", "Dive" and "Big Long Now". In fact, I like the Incesticide collection more than any of their studio albums. My favorite tracks released on those are "Blew", "In Bloom", and "Dumb", respectively.

So tonight I got to see an early theatrical screening of HBO's new documentary, "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck." It was a very challenging thing to watch, mostly due to the intercuts between quiet documentary-type stuff and incredibly loud, incredibly flashy, headache-inducing walls of sound.

I think if I were to watch it on TV I'd like it a lot better though. Between all the noise and sensory assault it pretty clearly shows Cobain's humanity and the struggles he had in life, both growing up and in his final downward spiral.

I read a piece on it and saw the trailer. It looks like a tear stealer to give the tear gnomes power. I don't like feeding the tear gnomes in a group setting. But I will watch it at the right time. ......for the gnomes, of course.
