The thread says "and the Heartbreakers", the question says "Tom Petty".
The Heartbreakers didn't play on Full Moon Fever.
I like a lot of his songs, tough to choose.
I might say Learning to Fly, but that's because it sounds like an ELO song it's so very Jeff Lynne in its production.
I will listen and get back.

I'm leaning toward "Don't Come Around Here No More", with a side dish of "American Girl" and a helping of "Walls".

There are some days when "I Won't Back Down" isn't stuck in my head...

Definitely "Don't Come Around Here No More", and a good video.

After reminding myself of all the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers stuff I have to go with :
Don't Do Me Like That
That album Damn the Torpedoes takes me back to childhood, I was 8 in 1980 and that whole album got a lot of listens. Don't Do Me like That has the best interplay of restrained instruments. The band is so tight and it's all so tasteful. For me it's kind of a rock/ pop standard to aspire to.
Lots of great songs over the years, great band too!

My only substantive opinion of a Tom Petty song is my boundless hatred for "I Won't Back Down."

Every time I get notified about this topic I get "Last Dance with Mary Jane" stuck in my head all over again.
This is not an endorsement.

I obsessively listened Damn the Torpedoes and to Here Comes my Girl in particular during some of my mopiest early teen years.

This one was tough. Honorable Mention to "A Face In The Crowd", and "Runnin' Down A Dream". I almost chose "Learning To Fly" as my favorite but in the end, I went with Into The Great Wide Open.

I'm going to have to change my favorite. I just now realized it's The Waiting. The waiting is indeed the hardest part. Waiting, waiting waiting.
