Probably "Venus in Furs" as for their experimental side; whereas "Pale Blue Eyes" is my favorite ballad of theirs. Very eclectic band.
Oh, and "Sweet Jane", of course. That one sounds almost like a Lou Reed solo song though. He definitely deserves a DRC thread of his own, as does the sadly quite underrated John Cale.

The Velvet Underground is one of my musical blind spots. How about I watch this thread and take notes?

Well I was going to say "Pale Blue Eyes", but since that's taken, how about "Andy's Chest"? Swoop, swoop. I think that's solo Lou but I don't care.
I also have a soft spot for the disjointed mess that is "Lady Godiva's Operation".

I mean beyond the obviously great songs like Heroin and I'm Waiting for the Man, I've always found myself drawn to the softer sounding songs. The first Velvet Underground song I really connected with was Stephanie Says for how pretty and poignant it is. I also really love the songs with Nico, like All Tomorrow's Parties, I'll be your Mirror, and especially Femme Fatale.

Lou will get his own DRC.

Dangit okay fine, "Some Kinda Love"! Or the wacky ultra-disjointed mega-mess that is "The Murder Mystery"!
I wonder how many years it'll take till we run out of well-known bands, then dip into unknown ones (for which we have precedent, John Valby), then DRC threads go recursive, as in:

Is Future Niveous some kind of collaboration between me and Future Boy, kind of like the spectacular Johnny Cashpoint-Future Boy collaboration album "A Maze of Death" but instead of being about the works of Philip K. Dick, it's about the works of George Orwell? I hope so because that sounds wonderful. Someone call FB and make that a thing.

Back to the Velvet Underground. Honorable mentions to Stephanie Says, All Tomorrow's Parties, and Venus in Furs.
My favorite is Sunday Morning

the first cavedwellers recording ever was a cover of Sweet Jane. I love the VU version more than the classic Live Lou Reed version. Its just the best 4 chord bang out of a song ever.
Sweet Jane!
special nod to After Hours (also covered many times)
and for the super art-rock geek in me I must mention The Murder Mystery
mind you I have all of the Velvet Underground albums and I love them all!

Another band I love too much to choose... "Black Angel's Death Song" is for sure one of the top. I love that weird sound... like sucking in air... Also, "Jesus". It's all too amazing. "Choose to choose".
