I've barely scratched the surface of Genesis, but I guess "Misunderstanding".

Genesis is probably my 2nd favorite band.
It's the Peter Gabriel era I'm talking about. I like the post Gabriel stuff, especially songs like Keep it Dark, and Turn it on Again. It's the PG stuff that's most exciting.

So before there was Queens Bohemian Rhapsody there was a song with more wit and whimsy and beauty by Genesis called " Suppers Ready". That is their center piece. It's going to be my pick, but it's a little unfair in that it's an album side.
It's the most epic song I know of, and it's amazing that it really works for the whole 20 plus minutes.

Other gems, (though you can't go wrong with any track from Trespass, Nursery Crime, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, or the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway ) for me are:

From Trespass: Stagnation, the Knife
From Nursery Crime: The Musical Box, Harold the Barrel
From Foxtrot: Can Utility and the Coastliners, Suppers Ready
From SEBTP: Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth
From Lamb: Back in NYC, Counting Out Time

Without Gabriel, Trick of the Tail and Duke are pretty good albums, but not as magical as those others.
If you're familiar with my music you'll hear the heavy influence Genesis has on me. I love the rich chords, the killer syncopation, the phrasing, the odd time signatures.

Supper's Ready!

I like both eras of Genesis. There are some great songs post Gabriel. I love the showmanship of the Gabriel era though. I often wish that I would put myself out there more like he did during performances.

Honorable Mentions to The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging and No Son of Mine.

My favorite is That's All.

There are no good Genesis songs.

Oh, I kind of liked that one with the spitting image puppets - Land of Confusion. I mean, it's not *good* but it has a campness about it that brings back memories of Gabriel dressed as a sunflower.

I like both eras of Genesis. My favorite albums are the Collins era ones sans the last two (Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance), which are too polished for me (Land of Confusion is still a great song, as is No Son of Mine) - my favorite Genesis song is the ballad "Heathaze", from Duke, closely followed by the similar "Undertow".

As for the Gabriel era... "Stagnation" and "Seven Stones", probably.
