What is your favorite New Order song?

Honorable mention to Ruined in A Day and World (Price of Love). Clearly, I favor the Republic album.

My favorite is Regret.

Regret is a great pick!

Age of Consent is my pick. Feels the most Joy Division to me.

It's always going to be 'Blue Monday' - but 'Regret's a good second. Didn't I do a cover of 'Regret' a while back? I'm sure I did but I can't find it. Anyway. Blue Monday (original version). Any other answer is clearly fatuous :)

j$, your link is blocked in the USA

We all know Blue Monday. It's a good dance song, but in any other context it's way too repetitive. The whole charm of New Order to me is that they took real drums, real bass, and read guitar along with synth and made dance music. Blue Monday is more just synth. It's an anomaly in their catalog. I'm glad they got a hit, but that's a skip for me when listening to New Order.

No, it's just blocked for those who don't deserve to hear its brilliance :)

Oh sorry, I was under the impression this was a 'post your favourite song 'thread, not an 'obscurer-than-thou' competition.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Nah, they got boring (though still pleasant) when the pop/dance crossover became more pop than dance. I could bang on about BM's musical perfection, or the huge impact it had across Europe when it first came out, not only for New Order but also for what you crazy kids across the pond call EDM; but I think I'll just leave it at when you hear it (even the radio edit) it changes how you think about music.

Thanks for your input.

I find that a strange declaration. I would have thought is is almost the very essence of their catalogue. i'll go with J$ on this one - Blue Monday is where they really nailed it. Other notable mentions are Ceremony and Age of Consent.

I don't have a favorite New Order song... Does Joy Division count? If so, "Isolation."

Surely Joy Division deserve their own thread.

Did you know Ian Curtis was once an executive at Hershey's?

He was in charge of the Almond Joy division.
