First post, gotta go for the gusto... "So What" :-) It's the recording that turned me on to Jazz. My old guitar instructor had me transcribe Miles Davis's solo and that got me hooked on "Kind of Blue", which I've listened to an uncountable number of times since. What a cliche. Interesting question... there are a couple notes that are more than kinda blue in there. I've heard various takes on whether or not they're intentional... I'm of the mind that they were accidents, but they add to the charm. What do you think?

True fact - my middle name is Miles - my parents were huge fans. I concur, man was the Picasso of jazz - no style he couldn't master and better. Never heard a bad album by him. Individual songs harder to select. Who would listen to just one. 'Sketches of Spain' from start to finish on a sultry evening, that's my choice tonight.

Birth of the Cool and Pangaea are great.

I also have a weird affection for Decoy, because he was trying to be Herbie Hancock or something and it just seems so out of place in his oeuvre.
