Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Yeah, that was me. But I did make it so blatantly obvious that it was impossible to not know that it was about the title. I think Lunkhead called me on one song, but after he heard the connection he retracted his statement. The man is always trying to hold a brutha down.adamadamant wrote:As for the 'title in the lyrics' question, I'm pretty sure someone last year (BLT maybe?) said they didn't include the title in any of their lyrics on purpose
I have a secret theme for each Nur Ein, like last years "no title in the song" theme. I try to stick to it. It's gives me an added bit of direction as I write.
@Melvin. Welcome to my world.

Hey, I resemble that statement! I didn't understand initially that "blitz" meant "lightning", so the connection to the title ("The Blitz") in your song (which did not have the word "blitz" in it anywhere) was completely lost on me. Here is where I got clued in thanks to Adam's awesome review podcast. I guess it was a bit hypocritical since Erin and I did a song in Spanish the previous year, huh? Yeah, my bad. Of course, we also caught flack for our Spanish lyrics from some reviewers. For me personally the lesson I got from all that was "not including the title is risky".Billy's Little Trip wrote:I think Lunkhead called me on one song, but after he heard the connection he retracted his statement. Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Well this year my theme doesn't include "not" using the title, so there should be less confusion.
Now to find that fine line between over ambitious and simplified arrangements. I have a feeling that this years judges will score low if they hear lazy musicianship or a slapped together piece, based on their past music I've heard. But on the other hand, if I can't pull off a difficult arrangement, it will make it even worse. I suppose I could just quit over thinking this and just be myself. *thinks again about Melvin's stop sign post*

Oh. I keep forgetting to answer that question. No, the elements do not need to be in that order. You just need to have them all.

...and don't forget, while a "chorus" can mean a set of lyrics or melody repeated at intervals in a song, it is also:
An actor in Elizabethan drama who recites the prologue and epilogue to a play and sometimes comments on the action.
or
A group of masked dancers who performed ceremonial songs at religious festivals in early Greek times.
Just remember to do it twice. At least....AND WATCH OUT FOR THAT STOP SIGN!!!!!!!!!!!

And to any who care, my next tune is going to kick my last song in the balls with RAWK. Well, at least with the level of rawk that I'm capable of, which is at best a lil sellouty. But still, balls will be kicked (at least mine will - I guarantee you).

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Got my music written, as well as all but one line of the lyrics. For the record, I'm playing at a little over 105 bpm, so here's how my song charts:
4/4 time (well, technically 8/4, but I'm converting it to 4/4 to make the math easier, and also so that my verses don't have half measures)
2 measures intro
7 measures verse 1
10 measures chorus (the last two measures of the chorus double as a lead-in to verse 2)
7 measures verse 2
10 measures chorus
6 measures solo (half a chorus, plus two bars lead-in)
7 measures verse 3 (yes, verse 3. I'm crazy.)
One last measure to let the last chord ring for a bit.
Total = 50 measures.
50 measures @ 105 bpm = 114.28 seconds.
Wow.

Yeah, everyone's going to steal my 7-measure verse formula... How ever will I continue to survive in this competition.
That's just how confident I am, you know. I'll share my secrets, and you still won't be able to do it quite like me. Anyways, I got music & lyrics already. Whatchoo got?

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Just need to record my 3rd verse and I'm ready for tinkering.....
(4/4 time comprising 69¾ measures @ 138bpm = 1:59.64)
I have no idea how this worked out, I just kept squeezing

You can have more than the required elements and be okay. If you can pull off an extra verse, chorus or solo...more power to ya. You just need all the required elements to be fulfilled.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Might as well post my stats, in case you guys want to rip me off.
I'm at 111 bpm. 4/4 time.
2: intro
3.5: verse 1
2: prechorus
8: chorus
1: musical break (echoing the intro)
3.5: verse
2: prechorus
8: chorus
8: solo
8: chorus
Then I let the last note hang for about 15 seconds.
It rings in at about 1:56. I'll probably fade out the end a bit quicker though, so it'll probably be shorter than 1:50.
