Well, I wasn't going to be all pathetic and post my song, but since you asked, I'd feel like a jerk if I didn't. I PMd you an MP3. I'd love your opinion of how I would have done in round one. Thanks, Jon.Generic wrote:Let's let the judges decide whether it should be included in the fight.
That said, I'd love to hear your song, BLT.

That's an excellent trick that I definitely want to use sometime. But no, in this case what you're hearing is actually ebow + slide + guitar through distortion. It's a favorite from my bag of tricks, but I haven't found a place for it in a songfight song until now.Paco Del Stinko wrote:Is that a mouth solo through distortion? An old 4-track trick that I think about occasionally, it works fantastically here.
Thanks for all the reviews! As for me, I particularly enjoyed Frankie Big Face, Nouveau Pavre, and Swillington. And I just love Cock! Wouldn't my parents be proud?

Wow, what another another great batch of songs! Playing "if I were a judge" my top five would be:
1. Howl Down the Chimney.
2. WreckdoM.
3. Frankie Big Face.
4. Tiny Robots.
5. Nigel Clements.
Rounding out the top ten in alphabetical order would be Paco, Quimby, RG, Ross, and Signboy.
As some of you noted, we in Cock stepped forward from 1983 and firmly into 1987. For the technically curious, the Roland JX-10 and and the Korg Poly-800 reappeared this week, but were joined by a Yamaha CS-15D, a Juno 106, and a Moog Rogue. A circuit bent Kawai R-50e provided most of the drums, rounded out by a bent 707.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Not necessarily longer, but it just feels that it doesn't end as much just stop all of a sudden. I had the feeling that if you could have had another 20 seconds you would have ended it differently; a little bit of a repeat or a cadence or something - that's all.adamadamant wrote: I was a bit unsure what you meant here Ross:It should have been longer? Could you elaborate?Ross wrote: Adam admant - Abrupt ending betrays the challenge.

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Wow, I would not have guessed that. I've played around with that combination before (though not used it in a recording yet, either) and not gotten a sound like that. It really sounded like a voice, but then I realized there was no stop for breath, so I thought it had to be either synth, or a really impressive splicing together of lots of vocal takes. Just out of curiosity, what kind of distortion setup did you use?Teplin wrote:... ebow + slide + guitar through distortion. Distortion is just a software emulation of a Marshall JCM800 with gain on 2. I put some space echo on it and that's that.Lunkhead wrote:Wow, I would not have guessed that. Er.... I mean.... no, no, I misspoke... it IS vocal splicing. It's very impressive! Hi Judges! Vote Teplin!

Re: Nur Ein IV: Round One
Woohoo! First time winning immunity. We needed it this week, too. Sorry to see folks go, though. Rabid, I enjoyed your song and would not have eliminated you. It's always sad to see people miss the deadline, too.
I thought I would take a moment to update this table of the Nur Ein results of past year's and this year so far for those who are curious:
http://people.geneticmail.com/sam/nur_ein_table.html
Where's that new title and challenge, though, anyway?
