King Me, a knight who says Ni!

Post by wages »

And now for something completely different...

literally. This is my first demo for this. This might be a good G&G song, or "guy with a modest amount of accompaniment and a guitar" song. Listen and see why:

EDIT: HERE IS AN UPDATED VERSION:

This song is somewhat personal and 100% true, except the bit about learning the lessons of life...j/k! Plus it's concise and, for the style, it has mel-lo-die! I wanna keep it simple as its a "story song". Perhaps light drums, maybe some guitar noodling, but definitely a simple bass line to fill it out and hopefully someone to mix it properly. I'm also very open to suggestions. Sooooo....PM me if you wanna collab on this baby.

Here are the lyrics and chords (note: some settling may occur):
EDIT: Some lyrics changed, so I updated the below to reflect. I'm have a bit of difficulty with the line "I'd learn why its tough ta get a brain freeze", but I'm thinking it might be a matter of delivery. Any suggestions?

VERSE 1 (G-Am, G-Am-C)
once or twice in a year
when I was just a little rugrat
I'd go visit my grandparents
that's where good times were at

at night grandma'd whip up floats
I'd learn why its tough ta get a brain freeze
grandpa'd just slurp his quietly
devising his next big turn 'ginst me

CHORUS 1 (G-D-Am-C)
he'd say king me, king me son
the world won't go easy on ya, so ya gotta learn
king me, king me again
you'll get the hang of these checker, one day, son, you'll win

VERSE 2
so six seven, eight, then nine
dozens of games played; but NEIN
little boy who hones his skills
gettin' closer to the day I will

personal glory knowin' that I earned
what came on the day that I learned
granddad said 'nothin' great 'bout lettin' ya win'
and this is where it all began....

CHORUS 2
I got to say king me, king me pa
I figured it out, but without you I wouldn't at all
king me, king me again
you taught me that it's more than just "how to win"

king me, king me granddad
you put a crown on my head cuz I wasn't half bad
king me, king me just once
I wouldn't be me now if you hadn't of taught me this one

king me

UPDATE: Here is what i have so far:
http://www.philwages.com/music/kingme_demo3.mp3

You should notice some significant changes here (for SF, I decided not to go with the G&G bluegrass-y version that I will play for my grandpa in the future sometime).

I'm looking for drums (perhaps more). I plan to add a highly chorus-y lead/doubled guitar and to polish the rhythm guitar and vocals a bit. This version is recorded to 110 BPM. I can provide a click track if necessary.

Any suggestions or comments are welcome (even from Blue)!
