Otalgia 2?
Hello former and potential collaborators. I know it is fairly late in the game, but I have a demo of another Otalgia song, for "Pink Ribbon". I thought it would be fun to do a heavy song to that title.
I would love to at least get Jute to sing, if you are available, sir. I could also use some lyrics, possibly by Ken, if you have time over lunch this week to crank some out. TVIYH and Jolly Roger, want to take a crack at the bass and drums, respectively?
Or does anybody else want to do some serious screamin', thrasin', etc. if the aforementioned dudes are unavailable? Respond and I will PM a link to the demo to anyone who's interested. Time is limited so I can't promise that I won't go on ahead with doing as much of the instrumental tracks myself as I can just to try to get it finished for the deadline, but I could definitely at least use vox and lyrics. And if anybody out there wants to throw in a face melting guitar solo I could work 1-2 short ones (specifically four bars worth at 88bpm in the key of D minor) in.

I'd love to but I can't really record vocals in my dorm room. This summer I'll be ready for Otalgia 3, though!

Thanks for all the offers and regrets. JR, I'll PM you the link to the demo in a bit. Ken, thanks for the lyrics. TVIYH and Jute, bummer, but thanks for chiming in. Any other vocalists out there who want to contribute? Puce? Eddiebangs? Sven Mullet? Hoblit? Glenn Case? ADD? Boltoph? Deshead? Booty Chesterfield? Melvin? Anyone else who wants to try their hand at vocals for a heavy song?
If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion: listen to Luke Henley's "1000 Words" and tell me he's not your man for vocals.

Cool! I sent you a PM, Eddie. I will try to put together whatever I get from people, though in case people wind up not having interest/time I will probably still do bass, solos, and programmed drums, just in case. Vocals are the deal breaker, though, as without those I can't really submit the song. It's no big deal if I wind up not getting vocals, though. I can always shelve the song till a later date. That would give me time to work on it more, too, as I think the arrangement is a little half-assed, frankly.

I'm definitely liking these drums so far. Awesome work, and thanks!! I'm going to work on EQ-ing them tonight, and maybe re-record the guitar if I get the chance. Once I've got guitar/EQ-ed drums/bass, I'll send you another link to a new demo.
EDIT: OK so I just noticed you've already done some work on the drum tracks (a gate on the snare, etc.). Thank you!

Since it's too late to put the song in the fight at this point, here's what I've got so far:
http://people.geneticmail.com/sam/otalg ... r_demo.mp3
I'm still looking for vocals. I'd like to finish it some time even though it's not going to be in the fight. If anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll send you the lyrics Ken wrote. Or I suppose you could write your own now, since they don't have to be for "Pink Ribbon".

re: Otalgia demo
Lunkhead - Can I use that mp3 file as the music for my next SongFight entry? I would give you credit. Something like:
MC Eric B with Lunkhead on Bass and Guitar and Jolly Roger on Drums
You could still use it for you own entry also, since I am sure our versions would sound totally different.

Feel free to make a track with it, as long as you give credit to me and JR like in your post. I think we're kind of in limbo between fights now, though. It's pretty far past the "Pink Ribbon" deadline. Also, nothing that we write/record before the next title is announced is eligible to be in the next fight, technically. And I've already posted the bulk of the song on the boards before the fight, which is a bit unusual for a fight entry. So, even if I got vocals for the song tonight, I'm not planning to enter it. But feel free to rap over it and send it in and perhaps the fight masters will allow it anyway, as they like to be mysterious and unpredictable. Post it here, or PM me a link to it when you're done, too, as I'd love to hear it. (Also, there's always http://www.somesongs.com for posting non-SF! songs.)

I think that's a great idea Eric and Lunk. Rap is usually pre recorded samples anyway, so technically it will be a new song. It would be cool broken up with sections looped how the rappers do when they grab an old rock song, like Run DMC with walk this way....sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind, lol.
By the way, I still want to here this song completed with some smoke'n Paco style solos and I'm trying to keep the lyrics just as Ken wrote them, which is a challenge because of the arrangement. I will have to make a few minor additions to get the syllables to match the beat in some areas.

re: songfight rules
That brings up a good point. I do not play any instruments, so for the songs I create I usually download a hip-hop beat off the Internet (legally) to match the lyrics and tune I write. Many rap/hip-hop artists do it that way. I write my song before finding a beat for it, so it can take me several hours just to find a beat that matches it, and then I have to spend more time rewriting parts of the song to exactly match the beat.
By the way, none of these beats have been used on other peoples' songs. Most people just use them for background music in TV shows, movies, etc... or customize the beat and add to it to make their song. So, the point is, my songs as a whole are totally original.
Is what I do that not allowed for Songfight?
