Don't know why but the first thing that came to mind was a parody of Disturbed's Droppin' Plates off their first album.
I'm droppin' cakes! ^_^

From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

Anyone who references "Still Alive," or Portal in general, deserves to get stabbed in the face.

There's always a way to do it again, but differently.

Re: It's as easy as pie... (pre-fight)
Love songs aren't simple referential humor. "LOL THE CAKE IS A LIE LOL" is no longer funny (not that it ever was anything other than a zany reference out of context). If someone manages to do something clever with a new take on referencing a single joke from a 3-year-old game, great, but I'm just saying, if they don't do it well, they deserve to get stabbed in the face.

I wonder if Starfinger's going to do this one.
Maybe Seoup Gei. Heh.
I might be in for this title. Got my new setup up and running.

Who said it had to be "simple referential humor"?

I'm calm. I'm just saying,
If you're going to do something funny, make it funny on its own instead of just parroting something that was funny once in another context.fluffy wrote:Anyone who references "Still Alive," or Portal in general, deserves to get stabbed in the face.

Re: It's as easy as pie... (pre-fight)
Maybe I was using reverse psychology and wanted more Portal references!
Or maybe when I say ridiculous things I'm not expecting to be taken seriously. I'm just saying, try harder than an easy reference.

I'm 100% with fluffy about the face-stabbing. Therefore, GlaDOS will make absolutely no appearance in my entry. Going bluesy this time with no mention whatsoever of the title.

Re: It's as easy as pie... (pre-fight)
I.. spent all the time up until now not being able to come up with anything for "Cakes", but suddenly after reading all the above comments and remembering about that meme, I suddenly find myself wanting to write a song about something being a lie. Not cakes, though. And nothing about Portal, which I've never even played. Do I get stabbed?

So long as you don't make an overt, facile reference to the game, I think you're good.jeff robertson wrote:Do I get stabbed?
Of course, now I think I'm going to go play through Portal again...

We all need to have great restraint when writing our riffs. The 1st thing that popped into my mind was:

You guys are always ripping off the Dregs.
Please not this time.
Face stabbing might ensue.

I've been listening a lot to the SXSW 2010 showcases, so the first thing that popped into my head was this track from that collection.
But there's also this.

Johnny Cashpoint & Andy Balham are bringing you cakes baked from a particularly British receipe. Truthfully.
