Thanks Bill.

Only 70 votes in total ... That surprises me, for such a good fight.

Still, the best Weezer tribute won. :) Congrats Reve!

Re: sliding and originality

I know what you're talking about in the sliding thing. You think it doesn't work? I'm not sure what you mean by intentional-- I intended to do that particular melisma ... but if it sounds less professional I think I used a bad example with the word "cry". Relistening, it does sound right....

Awesome fight. Seems the smaller fights are always better. Like the good::bad ratio is inversely proportional to the number of submissions. Has there ever been a fight with only one entry? I'll bet it was infinitely good. boltoph I love your voice on this song. "Understandable lyrics" isn'...

And it goes without saying, Ashley sings the melody. ...or DOES she?? its about using that magic to LIE. To do the "Ashley" for a current pop-culture example. My only opinion on this topic is thus: Ashley Simpson. think they should replace all musicians with a trained monkey. Oh, wait, th...

Re: media players sound different (or, why does WMP suck?)

and i was wonderin' if anyone may know what is causing that??? WMP sounds a 'click' when it sees a digitally clipped waveform (which is arguably an accurate behaviour,) whereas Winamp and the others you mentioned detect digital clipping and lower the volume of the peak to prevent the click. So on t...

I will always value a performance over an edit. With the right light show, I'd pay to watch Southwest_Statistic perform his edits. Oh, and go-go dancers. There'd have to be go-go dancers too. Also, it seems to be a common opinion that listeners feel cheated when watching a band live that can not re...

Deshead... Have you heard Weezer's El Scorcho (track 7) from their Pinkerton Album? I wasn't sure if this was an "homage" or not. Heh, I thought the sound effect at the start would remove any doubt. (FWIW Pinkerton coloured everything I did musically for about a year, back in the day. Tha...

I made a kind of "demo" I guess you could say of the before-and-after when I edit a guitar line. Check it out. It does a better job of explaining what I do while editing then what I can write. <a href="http://69.244.191.218:82/media/music/southwest_statistic/guitar_processing.mp3&quo...

right now i've been mic'n the keyboard i wanna line-in... i don't know exactly how that'll work out... but at the moment i have no cables to do so... You might also try close-mic'ing the keyboard speaker, with the keyboard volume lowered. Get the mic right up to the speaker grille (if there is one)...

The fact is that anybody who is convinced that Analog Tape is the recording medium of choice are obviously not taking advantage of modern digital mastering techniques or digital effects. Or choosing not too. I think for every old school stalwart who decries the digital age 'cause he's secretly scar...

when I heard "unfurled", it stuck out, and I was pretty sure "world" was coming 'round the bend. D'oh. Ya, I hate that in songs myself. Nothin' pulls me out of a song faster than being reminded there's a writer behind it. I must re-record with "squirreled" as the lyric...

Nothing rhymes with world. At least, nothing that doesn't stick out as painfully obvious. Once you said "unfurled" I was like "Uh-oh, here comes 'world'…". Sorry, that's snobby. It's not snobby. :) But the pedant in me has to point out "curled", "twirled", an...

If someone believes that doing something a certain way produces better results, having them do things according to some different procedure (even if said procedure can produce equal results) then it will usually affect their performance, and actually give shittier results. If Jeff Tweedy wants reel...

Reel-to-reel tape shortage?

I'm not sure how many people here this would directly affect, but I think we'd all suffer indirectly: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.audio.pro/msg/273ba266a190fc4d Jeff Tweedy, leader of the band Wilco, prefers to record his music on reel-to-reel tape rather than on the digital equipment th...
