JANUARY 13th

<a href="http://www.15-16puzzle.com/">15-16 Puzzle</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/firebomb ... .mp3">Fire Bomb</a>

The Fire Bomb fight went from 01/12/04 - 01/23/04. What a great idea it was to have Erik write a song for John, and for John to write a song for Erik. It paid off with a victory for the <a href="http://glenncase.songhole.org/content/s ... p3">JBB</a>. Having heard both versions of both songs, I would have to say that I like them all. It made things a little interesting when I played for both Erik and John in Austin, and they both had Fire Bomb in their setlist. I was wondering to myself "Which version?!?"

JANUARY 14th

<a href="http://www.mightyoctothorpe.com">Octothorpe</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/is_it_co ... ld.mp3">Is It Cold?</a>

Another fantastic memory from hanging out in Seattle during the Penny Arcade Expo, was getting to hang out with Spud, and the Octothorpe crew. Blue and I would sing alternate lyrics to this song through most of the visit. Such as when Spud was driving "What makes Spud the car driver? The wheel is in his hands..."

So, Spud was voice chatting with me on Yahoo messenger, and somehow this song was brought up. He said I should check it out, so I did... and he heard my honest reactions as I had them. It involved much laughter.

The amazing part about this track is that multitracking was not used. Spud was telling Blue and I the story of how he recorded the piano in one channel, and then sang in the other... it was late at night, he couldn't be loud, and he could not hear the piano while singing... so he just tried to sing it the best he could, and hoped it would line up. It did. This song makes me smile a lot.

JANUARY 15th

<a href="http://chris.hoblit.net">Hoblit</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/i_can_se ... eey.mp3">I can see you</a>

So, I recently found out that over 100 people attempted to be part of the "<a href="http://www.bigeasyconcerts.com/">Quest for the best band</a>" contest that we are in! We are in the top 15! I don't even care if we place 15th, we made it this far, and I am stoked! We were given 200 tickets to give to fans, and we are one of 5 bands for that evening! There is potential for at least 1,000 people to show up to this! We are going to try to do two main things:

1. Have Fun
2. Provide the best show that we can.

So what does this have to do with <a href="http://glenncase.songhole.org/content/s ... >Hoblit</a>? Well. "The Half Racks" are a 3-piece right now, we are considering a lead guitarist. I am trying to convince Hoblit that he needs to move to Spokane and become that lead guitarist :).

This song represents part of the reason for this. Because <a href="http://glenncase.songhole.org/content/s ... >Hoblit</a> ROCKS!

We're a day behind already? I don't hold up much hope then, that tomorrow will honour the fact THAT IT'S MY FRICKIN' BIRTHDAY :)

Maybe Glenn could go down the 365days route and get some guest curators for the days troublesome real life gets in the way?

Where did I save that CV?

JANUARY 16th

<a href="http://www.deshead.com/music">Deshead</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/piece_of ... mp3">Piece of my heat</a>

Choosing this song is just a play on words, really. I am making this post a day late, and thought I might take a little 'heat' because of it, and then I thought... YEAH!

Deshead seems to be the songfight newbie, who really isn't a newbie at all. I can't find the posts, but Deshead seems to know some songfight history. Maybe he posted under a different name before?

At any rate? This song kicks ass. ESPECIALLY the bridge.

<a href="http://www.thebrothermachine.com/">Brother Machine</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/accelera ... lerator</a>

Bro Mac is one of those consistantly great songfight acts that becomes legendary within this community. You can check out pretty much any track they made here, and it is solid.

Bro's album of non-songfight songs entitled <a href="http://bromachine.msspro.com/goingnuts.html">"Going Nuts"</a> is incredible, and I highly recommend it. Highlights include (but are not limited to) <a href="http://bromachine.msspro.com/music/brot ... >"Get-Away Beat"</a>, <a href="http://bromachine.msspro.com/music/brot ... ng.mp3">"A Brand New Song"</a>, <a href="http://bromachine.msspro.com/music/brot ... .mp3">"All the Time"</a>, and <a href="http://bromachine.msspro.com/music/brot ... mp3">"Lust For Love"</a>

JANUARY 18th

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/johnny_cashpoint">Johnny Cashpoint</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/half_a_s ... .mp3">Half A Stone</a>

Happy Birthday Johnny Cashpoint! J$ posts on the songfight boards with alarming frequency. I am not entirely sure that he isn't just a well programmed computer, posing as someone who makes songs that are like pouring dishwashing liquid on chocolate cake.

Love him, or hate him, when you hear the voice? You KNOW it's J$. The lyrics to this particular song are absolutely hilarious as far as I am concerned, but you might need to turn up the volume a little to hear them. This song seems to have been mastered a little low.

<a href="http://www.stateshirt.net/">State Shirt</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/strawman ... mp3">Straw Man</a>

One of the most outstanding Songfighters in the history of the website has got to be State Shirt. If I were to make a "Songfighters most likely to make it big from music" list, State Shirt would be on it.

This is one of those songs that you listen to and think "How on earth was this created in a week?! Is this really a songfight song?" You could place a State Shirt song in a playlist amongst professionally signed artists, and no one would be the wiser. Well...maybe they would be skeptical because it sounds better than what some professionally signed artists sound like.

<a href="http://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php ... ility">The Disability</a> - <a href="http://www.songfight.org/music/polaris/ ... Polaris</a>

The <a href="http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?k ... Polaris</a> fight went from 12/31/02 - 01/24/03. I don't know a single thing about "The disability" but, I personally like their entry for the Polaris fight the best.

I like the harmonies, and the chord structure, and the overall songwriting. The performance may be a little sloppy in spots, but I like it that way! I don't know what the song really has to do with the title, but I'm probably just missing something.

Planning on catching up with this tomorrow at work.

There will be times when I am not 100% caught up with this thing, but I fully intend to have 365 songs listed at years end.

In the meantime I am recording up a storm, in anticipation for a Half Racks CD that will be for sale! It will probably be 10 songs, completely redone with the better equipment we have access to at this time. I am still in the acoustic guitar/vocals stage of things, and I am beginning to think that these are going to be the best sounding recordings I have ever been a part of.

ROCK!
