Re: You can't restart if you don't (Shutdown reviews.)

Brown Word and the Big Whine : Still quite the bass heavy mix, but in 6/8 time, woohoo! Except for when it stops being in 6/8 time. I’m generally a fan of time signature shifts so that works well. Topically I’m kind of happy to see you write a song that isn’t about COVID, it’s a nice change of pace...

Re: You can't restart if you don't (Shutdown reviews.)

Phlebia. This was the best track in the fight (though it is mastered a bit loud). Please tell me about how you did everything. SLEEP IS THE COUSIN OF DEATH. Well the truth of it is mostly that I never shut down. It's mostly just two bass tracks, one higher register one upper register, except for th...

Re: Lyric craft

Ha, I always kind of liked that Smash Mouth lyric despite it's completely inaccurate understanding of what the ozone hole entails. Probably a lot of that comes from nostalgia for pool parties when I was in 3rd grade. As much time as he spends in the 90s, I'm amazed he didn't touch the complete lyrica...

Re: Can we put a link to the IRC and Discord somewhere on the front page?

Maybe above the "news" section? I see there's a link to the IRC on the songfight.net web ring, but I feel like it's so buried (and early 2000s internet) most people don't see it. Or at least have it be more visible somewhere?

Can we put a link to the IRC and Discord somewhere on the front page?

So I know both of them exist, but I didn't know we had an IRC until it was posted in one of the sidefight threads. And the Discord is pretty much dead, but I think it's cause nobody really knows about it.

Can we put a link to them so people know they exist?

Yeah, I never go away. I would say posssibly "hands Up" off the top of my head. My (admittedly) hazy memory is just before you went off to join the army? j$ Just looked at your artist page in the archive, and it appears Are You Having Fun? in September 2004 was the most recent meeting of our solo e...

US Federal employee/public servant here: minor correction. Political appointees can be sacked for arbitrary reasons. Lower level hires are extremely difficult to fire unless they flagrantly break the law. Oh good! This stuff is really confusing me. (me- currently a local government public servant -...

Re: Have you tried (Shutdown prefight)

Personal challenge of mine met: use as many of my recently purchased iZotope products as possible. Nectar, Neutron, Ozone, Trash 2, Iris 2. And Vinyl, but I've had that one forever. I'll be in later today. And seemanski: stick around! It's fun here.

Re: Ye olde songfight?

I mean, the third stream movement produced some neat stuff. I'd love to hear it! Though a free jazz take on some stupidly complicated baroque pieces sounds just as fun.

If you’ve never seen Richard Thompson’s 1000 Years of Popular Music, it’s well worth a listen.

I am well acquainted with that album to the point of wanting to specifically avoid covering "Sumer is icumen in" cause it gets stuck in my head every time I hear it :)

I've hardly got time to review people's tracks right now, but I have a new favorite Lichen Throat song. Edit: and damn that chorus for Rain is GOOD.

Ye olde songfight?

Obviously this would wait until Nur Ein was over - but I was listening to The Everly Brothers' album "songs our daddy taught us" this morning and got to thinking that it would be darn neat to have a sidefight where the primary rule is "cover a song written prior to 100 years ago. So I guess before 1...

Brown Word and the Big Whine : Your voice is a little buried in the mix, turn it up! The tuba is a delightful touch. Something about the mix seems a little bit “boomy”, like the guitar seems a little bit too thin and the tuba feels a bit too fat. But then again it’s a tuba so it being fat seems lik...
