Re: Nur Ein XX Round Four "Cracks In The Sidewalk"

Proud to come in last place among such a great group of songs. Some very cool approaches to the time signature challenge, and just some great songs overall. Good luck to all going forward!

Re: Nur Ein XX Round Three "Once More With Feeling"

Micah Sommersmith - I like the accordion as a texture instrument. That sounds like a backhanded compliment but it’s not meant to be. It just works extremely well for me here. Is that a hammered dulcimer? It sounds hammered and I like it. Call and response seems more like repetition here but it work...

Cracks in the Sidewalk Micah Sommersmith The whole song is in 5/8; the stress pattern alternates between 3+2 and 2+3. If you never find a piper, I play the accordion, which is of course a completely different instrument but which is often confused for some reason!

Nur Ein XX Round One "Pyramids"

Pyramids Micah Sommersmith Notes on composition and challenge fulfillment: The full melody is in the vocal from 0:05 to 0:55, and is roughly pyramid-shaped in pitch, starting low, reaching its highest point on the second syllable of the word "pyramids", and then descending to end low agai...

Re: SOMESONGS - ROUND FOUR

We're going to keep the deadline because I've already received at least one submission. We've accepted slightly late submissions already, so I can't imagine we wouldn't accept something that came in modestly late. Just get it in as close to the deadline as you can. I can respect the answer but I ca...

Re: SOMESONGS 2024 Round 1 "View From the Bottom"

View from the Bottom Micah Sommersmith There is light shining somewhere above me, There is somebody there who could love me. There is sea breeze and salt air and open sky, But here am I. Musically, I was inspired by Baroque-era chorale preludes, in which a slow chorale is used as a cantus firmus, w...

Re: SOMESONGS - ROUND ONE

Given the oblique, open-ended challenge, is it acceptable/useful to include a statement in the submission email about how we fulfilled the challenge, or should we let the songs speak for themselves?

With no eliminations, could someone skip one or more rounds and just score 0s across the board for that round, and still be eligible for the following round?

It's true, SpinTunes 23 is indeed starting on August 24! We've had a lot of Song Fight regulars join in recently, which is awesome. If you've been part of SpinTunes before, I hope you will join again. If you haven't, I hope you'll join for the first time! SpinTunes is a little bit like a gentler, sl...

Did I hallucinate or did somebody say there's a Discord? If so, anybody got a link?
If you signed up for SpinTunes 22, the email I sent on March 1 announcing the first challenge also has a Discord invite link.

I don't know that anyone has been disqualified since Dave (and later Micah) took the reins, but I don't follow as closely as I used to, so they might have. Dave DQed Glen Raphael in ST15.2 for writing a parody song without original music - that's the only time I can remember anyone getting disquali...
