Re: Free Plug ins
I did research the issue, and read that CSS2 would just pass over a 'color: transparent' instruction. Unfortunately, what I read was completely wrong . And the issues with IE are even worse than I thought. So, rather than create a dozen conditional stylesheets, I think a little text link to a pure v...

Re: Free Plug ins
Nice abuse of text-shadow. I wonder what it looks like on pre-CSS3 browsers though. ;) Probably less blurry. And in Explorer, everything in Courier New. Before I discovered text-shadow, I made a javascript thing which read lines of text and sequenced pre-blurred PNGs - one for each character. It wa...

Re: Free Plug ins
I've just set up a little site to house my musical projects, including samplepacks. There's some drums and misc samples there at the moment, which you might like. Have a look, and I'll be adding more soon: http://kapitano.me.uk/resources.htm Oh, and let me know if you like the design. It's what my s...

Who could forget this one? bVDfmn_TMkI Originally recorded as this: 2KAXvTvO0TI ...but the record company (EMI, I think) weren't too keen on a song about a psychopathic gay teenage boy, or the line "He gave me head". When The Dammed, The Clash, Siouxsie etc covered the song, they invariabl...

I'm trying to come up with a way to sing "Kissing - the only french I know", without it being cringingly crudworthy.

happens every time I do lyrics first. It is possible to turn this to your advantage. Listen to a song, write something to the same chords and rhythm, and the next day come back to it. If you're lucky you'll have forgotten what the original song was - or your recollection will be too vague to recons...

In this week's episode of "Kapitano is an Idiot"... I said to myself, "I'll do something a bit like Depeche Mode's Speak and Spell period, seeing as I've got a new recording setup and I'm not sure how it all works so I want something simple that doesn't need advanced synth programming...

A new title tonight would be awesome. Three days later I'm having the same thought. But then I thought...if the point of SongFight is to give you an artificial challenge to spur your writing and recording, there's no reason why you can't provide your own. So here's mine: Take a book, and flip throu...

The second half of my reviews... MENBAH & Swanpjaw : Nice vocal harmonies. Some more variation in what the guitars play would be good. The drums go too low when the vocals start. Solo's a bit quiet too. The ending is abrupt, but works. Night Society : Very pleasant and restful. Doesn't build at ...

His YouTube profile reads, "Opinionated Jerk". His Twitter profile reads, "Dickhead critic of everything you do." The guy can't do too much more to let people know it's a gag. Yes, we all get that it's a joke. He doesn't get that it's a bad joke. A tired, childish, boring joke t...

Re: From Asses to Ashes. Are we here yet? (prefight)
I think song layout is one of the least important aspects of composition. The formula I-V-C-V-C-B-C-C is in thousands of rock songs. (I - Intro V - Verse C - Chorus B - Break/Solo) I've never heard anyone complain that every song on an album has the same structure - even though they often do. People...

Sorry people, I've had no time for proper listening or reviews. But here's some quick comments: Berkeley Social Scene : Oddly muffled sound - on all tracks. Bad mic? Vocalist sounds tired. Could use more going on, sounds bare.. Organ or keyboards? Claps would be good :-). Overall impression of a ver...

My microphone stand does not even go above waist height. It doesn't need to. You sing out of your arse? You know what they say about a man with a tiny mic stand...
