Re: Maalox Moments (Stomach For it Reviews)

Frosty The Showman and Smashblade - The vocals seem need some compression to keep them even. Decent flow (though some "hardcore" parts are a little awkward). Very cool hooks and loops. The main riff reminds me a little of "Bitch Please II" from Eminem's "Marshall Mathers LP...

Re: Vocal Mixing

In addition to the songs I already put up links to, I'd really like to be able to emulate the syle of this song:

Also, thanks for that link. I will check it out forthwith.

Re: Vocal Mixing

Thanks for all your help guys. I think I've got my track sounding pretty good. Although I'm not sure where to go to do research on the recording techniques of my favorite artists. Any suggestions? Asking google "How does blackalicious record" has not helped me one bit.

Re: Vocal Mixing

I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB with a SHURE Sm58 Mic with a pop protector on it. Editing the sounds in garageband. The vocal track I have currently recorded is not as clean as I would like it to be, but I'm going to wait a bit before re-recording because I'm sick and my voice will go if I don't ...

Vocal Mixing

I know this has been gone over a bunch of times, but I can't find the threads where It's been talked about right now. I'm recording a rap song for this week's fight, and I recall that every single attempt I have made at adjusting the EQ on my vocals has been a horrible, abortive failure. This is pro...

It's connected in like three different ways.
1) Walking the Border between present/future
2) Walking the Border between fame and obscurity
3) I said like three. Give me a break.

Re: Fixing crappy laptop mic vocals

I'm actually buying a couple mics in a few days, but I'm working on my submission for tomorrow so I was hoping for something I could do right now. EDIT: I found the equalizer in GarageBand. My problem was that I was searching for EQ instead of "equalizer". Proceeding to other vocal thread ...

Fixing crappy laptop mic vocals

I know there's not too much that can be done about a bad mic, but anything would help. You can hear how the mic sounds in Mighty Mouse + Pudding Delicious' submission for Empty Wednesday. People have suggested increasing the EQ, but I don't know what that means, exactly, and I don't think I can do i...

Re: Post Mardi Gras Depression (Empty Wednesday Reviews)

Mighty Mouse etc. Hahaha, this is pretty funny and moderately well done. I'd like you to apply some EQ to your vocals so I can understand the words more easily. And the singing part, reduce the volume on that and apply some delay and reverb so it sounds like it's in the background. And maybe some m...

Re: Post Mardi Gras Depression (Empty Wednesday Reviews)

Accessory Twelve - I like the interplay of the electronic and acoustic sounds, but the melody gets a bit repetitious. Maybe needs a more obvious chord progression. It feels like the lyrics don’t quite mesh with the music. Overall, an interesting song to listen to, but taken together, the whole thin...

Re: Post Mardi Gras Depression (Empty Wednesday Reviews)

Mighty Mouse and Pudding Delicious The problem with the genre you’re doing is that the vocals are the feature attraction. Which means that, if your vocal track isn’t mixed or recorded well, it stands out a little more than in other genres. Your beats are also just a little naked. I’m also not a fan...

Mighty Mouse and Pudding Delicious - Very fuzzy ... I like the sound, but the vocals seem kind of out of control ... not bad ... trying too hard at a sound that you're not the best at ... one of you is really good at the whole screaming sound ... the other one doesn't sound too good in the style .....

Could be something to do with this
1) People google the song titles?
2) Why doesn't EB White get primary credit for the book? That's unfair.

Mighty Mouse + Pudding Delicious I don't like chorus on rap vocals, I like layers. Two voices, rhythmically in sync, sounds 1000 times better than the best chorus effect. Um, high five. That sounds like good advice, but I'm not sure how to get the hook in there (Not that i'm saying i had one) witho...

"Rone Rivendale: Good: Hehe. Bitter orange = vomit. Funny. "I feel sorry for him because now he'll see alot more of you." is a good line. Wacky background. Bad: The chorus is totally offbeat. It's all good when you're doing the spoken word, but when you're singing it's just not worki...

Reviews were done in a totally random order: Andrew Reis Good: The music itself is well played, well recorded, and well composed. Vocals are pretty well delivered as well. I like the reverb you've got going on. Bad: As far as use of the title goes, this is pretty lame. This is your run-of-the-mill l...
