Re: Free Plug ins

That was great, thanks for sharing that! I learned a bunch. I really need to use step input for MIDI tracks in Cubase, especially for arpeggios. Spitfire also has a bunch of other free virtual instruments in their "LABS" plugin. Some of it is "normal" stuff and some of it is more "out there": https:...

I think I reached out to both Drew and Collin early this year on Twitter, maybe January? I don't think I heard back.

Re: Talk trash and (Take It Outside reviews)

Reve and Ujn win, but, these votes are pretty whacky. It's like the opposite of a friend flood. Oy. Just a reminder, there is no prize for winning, there is no point in monkeying with the votes. Just vote one time, for your favorite songs. If you want to tell your friends to vote for your song, plea...

Re: Modern democracy (was: COVID-19 freakout thread)

The one person is only supposed to have some power. All the power is supposed to be split between the three branches, and they are supposed to perform "checks and balances" upon each other. Probably this was made under the theory that nobody wants tyrannical rule. The problem is that the Republican ...

These lyrics are awesome! You could probably license these to a human metal band that would love them.

Re: Live streaming live music performances

Thanks fluffy! That's a really great starting point. How specifically are you capturing the audio from one computer into the other? Is it just via having an audio interface on both and plugging the outs of the audio interface on the "music" computer into the ins of the audio interface on the "video"...

Re: Mr. Bungle - USA

They played a few gigs before the pandemic, two nights each in SF, LA, and NYC, and I managed to get a nosebleed seat to one of the SF gigs. They only played their high school thrash metal cassette though, nothing from any of their major label albums. But they had Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo in the ...

Live streaming live music performances

If we're going to have an online Song Fight Live this year, there are probably a lot of us, myself included, who have a lot to learn about how to set up to live stream themselves performing music in a way that looks and sounds ok. There's the whole local A/V setup to capture the performance, and the...

Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

I imagine it's going to be nearly all solo performances, possibly with backing tracks, possibly with the exception of folks who collaborate with members of their households. Although if BSS could figure out a place outside where we could live stream a performance I might be interested in that!...

Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

Will it be every song? Or just "popular" titles? For someone like me who did every fight for c. 10 years, that's a lot o' learning and a long ol' stream! Good questions. I like the idea of the fight by fight style being one night, maybe we just try to see if we can get a critical mass of people for...

Re: Manual reply to confirm song submission not working for Gmail users

UPDATE: I actually paid a little more attention to what is happening. It seems like a service that our hosting service uses to try to block outbound spam is rejecting the confirmation emails because of the subject of the emails. I guess the title "I Am Very Busy" reads as spam when used as an email ...

Manual reply to confirm song submission not working for Gmail users

Hi folks. Starting in the last couple days the reply emails I manually send to folks to confirm receipt of their songs have been bouncing back, when the person sent their song using Gmail. So if you're a Gmail user and you didn't get your confirmation email from me, that's why. If you ask for a conf...

Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

I like the idea of "song rounds", maybe this would be a great opportunity to return to the original format of going title by title, with folks taking turns playing their song for the title? That would take a fair amount more organizational work, and we'd need to have enough attendance of folks from ...

Re: Song Fight! Live 2020 SF Bay Area Aug 28/29

I personally don't like the idea of it being 100% prerecorded. My wife has done Zoom "dance parties" and the sound quality for us for those was actually surprisingly OK to me. That was via sharing just the audio from an app on the laptop (iTunes or Chrome). The video is still shared too but the audi...

Re: Modern democracy (was: COVID-19 freakout thread)

Another piece of the puzzle for folks outside the US about how we got here, has to do with another dimension of how the Republicans chip away at the basic functioning of our "democracy" in order to avoid having a representative government: https://www.ajc.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/voti...
