Re: 2012-05-13: unwanted influences or similarities

I think the vocal harmonies for the "Rains Down in Africa" are gorgeous, and if you're going to rip something off, make it something outrageously good. I'm not musically talented or proficient enough to rip off much of anything, except myself. Oh and Midnight Oil's bass line for my "Where You Can Go...

Re: ...Submit a Song! (prefight)

I'm in the thick of making an album and I just realized that I haven't done a fight since... egads, January.

I'm in. I love the titles that just sing themselves.

Edit: Oh that's funny. I thought the due date was this Tuesday. Well, *brushes hands* that's done early.

Re: Nur Ein VII: Round Two

For me, successful takes on the challenge this round often embodied the idea of less is more. Part of an enjoyable, engaging song for me is a delicate balance between flow and dynamics. Some submissions over-used the challenge, or worse, used superfluous starts and stops. Oysterctacher +++ HAHAHAHAH...

So, then, not so much. There's plenty of availability, so I'll keep looking. On a completely unrelated matter, looks like Google+ could do a lot to help us broadcast a live feed of the performances and archive them: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/google-hangouts-on-air-broadcast-your.html Th...

For security purposes, AirBnB is a little non-specific, but... Seward Park? Definitely near Genesee Park.

I'm looking at a room via AirBnB that's on 49th Ave. Sounds pretty residential, near the water and a bus stop. How's the general location for access to our possible venues?

Re: Nur Ein VII: Round One

I get the idea you donn't apologize for much in Nur Ein, but this is a notable exception. I have to say, this is mighty big and right proper of you. People can put on big airs and snarl when you call them on crap, and it's quite refreshing to see someone acknowledge and sincerely apologize. *Hands ...

Re: Nur Ein VII: Round One

Prosody - I had to look this up, I'm still not really sure what it means though. Is it like a lack of good rhythm? To many different rhythms? Something else? Prosody has many meanings depending on the context, and I think my definition is a little idiosyncratic. One of the best approximations/defin...

Re: Nur Ein VII: Round One

This round was a study in opposites. For some, it was really easy to drop the hammer. For others... ranking was finely sliced. Higher ranking went to those who more fully and integrated the round structure into the song and/or succeeded at doing something really novel with it. Review in reverse alph...

What does 6/4 time "sound like"?

So, I had an epiphany in the shower this morning that one of my common strumming patterns is in 6/4 time. This solves all kinds of percussion-composition problems that I've run into before, since I was trying to jam songs into a 4/4 (or maybe 6/8) pattern, which mangled them terribly. However, EZDru...
