BND! Yes.

QOTD: Assistant pornographer. Or the Army.

Retail is pretty bad, yeah. Worked at the Sun Valley mall in Concord, CA twice. First time an airplane crashed on top of it (1985?) and the second time was the Loma Prieta 'quake, which was unpleasant even at that distance. I can take a hint

I'm already looking forward to a turkey sandwich.

QOTD:
I've never had a job I didn't like, but the one I liked least was delivering a free Orange County news paper to businesses in Laguna Beach. I had just started my swimming pool service company, played clubs with my band 3 or 4 nights a week and was going to college. So I did the paper delivery thing once a week for extra money. I liked this particular paper because it had a huge section just for the local music scene and thats where I saw the help wanted ad.
The cool part was stopping at all of the Laguna galleries, surf shops, food places, etc. Basically Id take a couple bundles of papers, pull the previous weeks papers off the rack and put a couple stacks of the new issue on the rack. The only crap part was parking and having to carry bundles of paper to and fro. Then at the end of the day, Id have stacks of old papers in the bed of my truck that I had to drive around with until I got to a recycle center. The good thing is that I got to keep the recycle money. The bad thing is that a whole truck load of papers yields about 5 bux! So I started dropping them off at the closest school to me. They had bins there 24/7 for their paper drive, so I could unload the same day. I didn't learn this until about a few weeks before I quit.

There are two ways I have pools dug. Either with a bob cat if we have access(about 3k), or a hand dig if there isn't access (about 12k).
I feel for the guys doing a hand dig on a 30k gallon pool. That's a lot of dirt to move one shovel scoop at a time.

I wasn't planning on trying to fight my way through the Black Friday crowds, but I need a sweater or something since I forgot to pack one and it's freaking cold in Seattle. Oh well, I could stand to lose some weight, and if I shiver it all off, that works!

My worst job was either in the kitchen at the baseball stadium's concession stand, or working at a computer store where for some reason I became the de-facto delivery person even though I sucked at finding my way around town.

I think the concession stand wins, though. My first day on the job I showed up and went to the sink to wash my hands. The shift manager asked me what I was doing, and I said I was washing my hands. She yelled, "We don't have time for that! GET TO WORK!!!" It only went downhill from there.

I've had a few bad jobs.

Bad job #1 was working at Mervyn's Department Store, in the Children's department, as a temporary employee during the Christmas season. I ended up getting really sick from all of the grubby kid germs all over everything.

Bad job #2 was working at a health insurance company as a phone rep. I quit because a patient kept calling me everyday and said she was going to sue me personally because the company I worked for denied her husband's insurance claim. He had cancer. I couldn't take the stress and wasn't getting paid enough to try.

I've worked retail on Black Friday before and it's awful. Some of the stores around here opened at 4 am today. That's ridiculous. I can't help feeling bad for the store employees.

yeah, this was a long time ago (early 80's maybe) and they used a cat for the heavy digging and lifting, but i just remember we would have to go in there and use these flat shovels to even off the sides of the pool, and it had to be perfect.

i'm sure you're a better boss than the prick i worked for at the time too BLT.

I picked up a shift @ traffic pulse / traffic.com today... time and a half. Had the day off from my FT job. (although I'm on call, please don't tell on me).

qotd: I can't remember which kitchen was the worse. While my first two jobs at grocery stores were dismal, I imagine one of the cook jobs I had in my time must have been worse. (Not to say that all my cook jobs were bad...but a couple of were just terrible)

My worst job was working a punch press in a heater factory. I was always afraid I was going to cut my fingers off.

My worst job by far would have to be for a guy who took me on to design packaging for him. He was setting up an online store, importing stuf from China, and wanted Australian packaging designed for the products.

This in itself sounds a little dodgy, but the thing that got me out of there was when, after working for three days in a room that has hitting 43C, he casually mentions in 'a meeting' that he isn't going to pay me for a month or so.

roll call: I've been sick with a nasty cold all week. I must have honked 2 gallons of snot out (so far). I called in sick yesterday and wrote and recorded my ...And Counting entry. I worked today, thanks to the magic that is Benylin. Picked up my daughter, and we just finished watching 'Blades of Glory'. How did they fit so many homoerotic scenes into just one movie?

QotD: I worked in a pig slaughterhouse. They started me off just packing ribs into boxes, then after a few weeks I got a 'promotion' to the kill floor. I quit about 5 minutes into my first shift. For the uninitiated, the way you slaughter a pig is: there's an overhead conveyor of chains and shackles, you grab a hind leg and shackle the pig. They don't like this at all, plus, they can smell death, so they're freaking. out. As the chain moved along, it hoists them into the air, where someone gives them an electric blast to the head with a probe. This is supposed to knock them out, and it does just that sometimes. Another person slits their jugular, and for the next 50 feet or so along the conveyor line, it's all about squealing, thrashing pigs hanging upside down with blood spurting out their necks. From there, it's a quick trip through a blast furnace which burns off the hair (and I suppose kills some germs, etc) and then to the quartering saw.
I had nightmares for a few weeks after quitting, and couldn't eat pork for years.
