sunday, the second day of the last month

Post by roymond »

We go ice skating every Sunday morning in Bryant Park in the middle of midtown Manhattan. They play awesome jazz and today we had our first snow. Two inches and it was great to skate in the falling snow. I don't have a qotd.

It snowed in Cleveland last night. Then it froze.

Every year since I moved north, I've found I have to buy a new ice scraper for the car, and this year was no exception. Man it's a cold walk to the grocery store.

Why, yes, it does snow here. Last January 21, I took this picture in our backyard, clearly showing snowflakes on the back of our golden retriever.

Fortunately, this was about as bad as it got...

I've never seen snow falling out of the sky, ever.

I don't like holiday movies, music, or decorations. Bah, humbug.

QOTD 1: no snow here

QOTD 2: Hard to pick a single favorite. My tops are:

A Christmas Story
Miracle on 34th Street (the old one)
It's A Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol (the version with Alistair Sim)

Today I learned that I have completely lost my patience with video games. Super Mario Galaxy's only "challenge" is figuring out how the fuck to control him. Same with Resident Evil 4. Fuck those games. Fuck them HARD.

qotd1: It snows very very rarely in San Francisco. It hasn't started yet. All my Seattle friends are telling me that it snowed up there yesterday. Big frowny face.

qotd2: Good movies are timeless, and seasonless.

Yeah, sign me up for that sentiment. This really ties into the conforming to societal norms thing. Give me 12 fingers and no holidays...or something. :?:

QotD: I like Charlie Brown. Both the Giant Pumpkin and the Christmas one. There's an appropriately sad and wrenching sentiment that underscores the movies. I identify with all the blown expectations and in-the-end-this-is-all-we-got-and-that's-just-fine moral. And the music rules.

QOTD 1: Yes it snows. A lot. On Friday I had to drive through a small blizzard on the way to school. It was -25 degrees C that day. And yes, there is still a lot of snow on the ground.

QOTD 2: Anything charlie-brownesque.

That would be the The Great Pumpkin, and A Charlie Brown Christmas. I also love both.

QOTD 1: Nope, but we have had some freak snow that melts 10 minutes later when the sun comes back out and it goes back up to 80 degrees.

QOTD2: A Charlie Brown Christmas is at the top. A Christmas Story is great. I also like Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer, the one with Yukon Cornelius and Hermey and Bumble. And when Clarice tells Rudolph he's cute, and it make him fly real good, I start running around my living room....with scissors, yelling, "I'm gute" ...like this here >> Image
Ha, just kidding....

1. Not nearly enough. I'm from Buffalo and so we like snow. However here it is crappy and rainy. Pouring rain tonight and 39deg F.
2. Not a chance. Stinkin' Maryland.
3. Not too much. I have some nostalgia for CB and RtRNR.

I saw that on telly the other night - and yes, it really was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. The lead bloke, whoever that was was pretty funny. It could have turned out very badly - but it didn't

Ok, don't know if you're being facetious or not, but Will Farrell is a MAJOR US comedy star right now.

Haven't seen Elf yet, but have continuously heard that it's a pretty nice film. I'll have to check it out.

Correct answer.
Simply stunning, Jimmy Stewart is amazing in the best all round feel good film ever.

I love that.

QOTD 1 : It snows here sometimes, more regulary these last few years.. Moses always wishes it snowed more. She loves it, me, I can take or leave. Snow is snow.

Tho remember kids, the thing about snow, and huskies, and not eating it.

QotD: Yep it snows here and yep it's started. It snowed all day on Saturday, our first real snow of the year. We got about 6 inches.

I started shoveling the walk yesterday and Phil got mad at me and took the shovel away. He doesn't want me to hurt my back again. Since I grew up where it only snows every once in a blue moon, the idea of shoveling is still a new concept for me and I kind of think it's fun.

It's 5 degrees F with a wind chill of -2 right now. I'm supposed to be getting ready for work, but I'd rather not. I have to take the bus and I don't really want to go outside.
