Evel Knievel, RIP
Few people came close to attracting my attention like Evil Knievel when I was a little boy. Along with the space missions and Olympics, I tried to tune in to his televised performances as much as possible. His antics were mesmorizing and at times his stunts were simply rediculous, but his dream and the spirit with which he pursued life was inspiring.

I wonder what details we'll find about his death in the upcoming days. He just last week reached a settlement with Kanye West over his representation in a Kanye video. He gave no indication that his next stunt would be dying, but good for him for making it this long, he obviously was one tough S.O.B.
BTW I had a the action figure Evil Knievel that rode the motorcycle, you put it in a little stand which had a crank on it, then wound it up and let him jump ramps/run into the wall or whatever else mayhem your 9 year old mind devised. Every kid should have one.

I think that's actual situational irony...which is a literary device, and doesn't necessarily relate to reality...but it's actual irony.
I remember watching some standup comic I hadn't previously heard of that was going on about that song. I've never actually heard the song, but this routine was pretty funny anyway. Something about rain on your wedding day is all I really remember, as far as the actual lyrics. Anyway, she said something along these lines that summed it up pretty well. "No, Alanis, it isn't ironic. It's unfortunate."

And BTW, I hear he was riding the motorcycle that shoved that Sting Ray's barb up Steve's ass or wherever it landed.

I guess I'll drop by the site in Twin Falls, Idaho where he attempted the jump when I'm there in a few weeks. If I have the time. I bet there are many flowers and things.

Not even completely true. He got hepatitis from a blood transfusion when hospitalized for one of his stunts. This was part of the diabetes & other complications reasoning for his death.fluffy wrote:And of course he died due to completely non-stunt-related things. Is that cosmic irony or Alanis irony? I forget which is which.
I had a friend who worked at a sign shop he used to frequent... always said he didn't look too great these days.

Coincidence is when two unrelated things occur at or near the same time, hence the name ('co' meaning 'together,' 'incidence' meaning, er, 'incidence'). A stunt that the world's biggest badass barely survives in the late 80s/early 90s causing him to eventually die 20 years later satisfies neither part of the definition.
