I did not watch this whole thing, but a cursory glance leads me to believe that it's that video of Albini giving a talk at a college about how he came to learn stuff about engineering, some history of bands he was in, and his views on analog equipment.

In this vid, he wears a hat that leaves all who see it wondering "Why are you wearing that hat, Duckie?".*

*This is probably the most important piece of information for remembering whether you've seen this or not.

I like Steve Albini
Albini wears a hat
He wears cor-blimey trousers
And lives in a council flat.
(or maybe he doesn't)

That's exactly what it is. I found it very informative and well worth the download.

He seems not to like digital recording for the sole reason that it's not archivable. Maybe there are other reasons, but he kind of never goes into them. That's the only reason he gives.

One thing that is useful that he said, was that when working on multiple songs (imagine that) he records a bunch of the same parts all at once, rather than doing a whole song, then doing another whole song, etc. So like, I think he'll record all the keyboard parts for all the songs, then record all the drum parts. Or maybe he'll just record the band's stuff all at once, and then do all the vocals in a couple sessions.

He seems really focused on "bands" per se. And that $24,000 a year thing he throws around is almost certainly disingenuous. And this is definitely an older video, because electrical.com says he's up to $450 a day now.

That was a long, but great video. I wonder if he still feels the same about tape?

Agreed, this is an awesome article. Anyone who plans to sign to a major label should be forced to read this first.

Thanks for the movie. It's cool to see the person behind the name, and.. nice hat.

Also wanted to add:

I wonder if he despises the equipment and room he is speaking into?
