I am now busy learning to play Octothorpe covers for this event in hopes of one day obtaining a free beer. And those therapists all said I had problems with self-motivation!

I've got shows on the 18th and 19th, but I'd like to come down on the 20th. I gotta see if I get MLK Day off at the day job. I'm pretty sure I'll have to take it as a vacation day.

Cool. I'm in. I'd love to play a short set, but I'd need some volunteers to help me out (drums, bass, keys, guitar, spoons, whatever...), if anyone is interested PM me.

This looks very promising for me. I have an old band mate in Jersey who has a drummer, so worst case I have a power trio, but I'm currently working on gathering select SongFighters to meet me in NYC. I sure hope I can pull it off, this sounds very fun!

who would be down for a New York gig?
Ernie... first, thanks for the personal invite (a couple of weeks ago!) -- I did get the message, and I apologize for taking so long to respond (lately I have been spending all time outside of work desperately searching for a new job, and it has not been a lot of fun!). Anyway, the time period you are speaking of is soon after Christmas and soon before our wedding, so I really don't know what our financial situation will look like at that time, but if at all possible, it sounds like it would be a lot of fun to be a part of this. I'll have to let you know, closer to then.

Okay, the venue wants to do some more promotion for the show so they wanna know the names of the bands who are playing. So who's in. (Of course I know that there are some who still won't know yet but I wanna give them a general idea)

Put me down as Heuristics Inc. (although I still don't know if I should ask for a backing band, I'll bill myself (haha, get it?) under that name anyway. No Craig for this one.

Jim Tyrrell. (I may or may not have a musician or two traveling with me, but we can all work under my name either way.)

EDIT: My two potential traveling companions have CONFIRMED, which means I'm definitely hittin' the town! The plan is to drive down as early as possible on Sunday, and check in at a nearby Motor Inn. I'm hoping to get to GBM by about... 1pm? So a Sunday set works for me, and at least I'll get to see some of the performers, at least.

sorry, eddie, but i don't play any of that stuff.

Niv! Have we considered stuff?

1. How will it be recorded?
2. Do we have housing suggestions for those of us who are traveling?
3. Are there venue-imposed restrictions on what we do?

1. I have no clue at the moment.
2. Been working on that. There are a lot of hotels in the area and in nearby Manhattan. I'll see about making a list this weekend.
3. Not that I know of.

I have a place to stay, albeit not in brooklyn (85th and CPW, baby! Thanks, mom-in-law) and the uke travels light. Plus, I'm in the middle of a work nightmare and a day flying beats a day working. Talking with Glenn about options. Who's coordinating this bad boy?

So far the show line up is like this (in no order):

Niveous
Heuristics Inc
Glenny & Friends
Feldspar
Roymond
Minty Handy
Eddiebangs
Jim Tyrrell
Charcoal
Ben Krieger

If anyone has any particular preference in line-up spot, tell me. The show's current run time is from 9PM til 1AM. So with 10 bands, everyone can have have 45 minutes. (9-9:45, 9:45-10:30, 10:30-11:15, 11:15-12:00, 12:00-12:45) The usual set at the venue is 39 minutes.

The venue (Goodbye Blue Monday) is located at 1087 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221. The venue is close to the J & Z subway train, only a few blocks from the Kosciuzsko St. station. The M train is also close (the Mrytle St. Station). Subway fare is $2 each way. You can call the venue (718-453-6343) if you get lost.

Image

The venue has "a PA system, three or 4 mics and stands, bass amp, 2 small guitar amps, an old drumkit (bass, bass-tom, floor-tom) and a few errant cymbals and such - trust your own hardware and drum throne (we have chairs)" and a piano.

There are a lot of food places up and down Broadway and GBM supports themselves through selling food and drinks. It has coffee, expresso, teas, PBR, Yeungling, Red Stripe, Ballantine Ale, Wine, Sake, Mulled wine, Manhattan Special soda, snacks, cakes and more.

New York is full of hotels. Just in Manhattan, there's all of these plus some. That link also mentions links to some other hotel listings. But trust me when I say that there are a ton more out there. You should be able to find one in a close proximity.

Any ideas on how we can record the event would be appreciated.

Anyone who might like to help on the Niveous set would be appreciated too. Guy & guitar is okay but a little more may translate better live.
