Experience begs to differ. In the past, when there were multiple titles, that is exactly what happened. People often wrote only for the title they entered, and more people who'd entered neither fight stepped up to the plate to review, too.

See above. Which is to say that most of us won't be reviewing double the amount of songs. It'll be close to half, in fact, because most people will review one fight or the other. I don't think anyone expects anyone to review all the songs in both fights.

Spud has obviously been concerned lately about the low voter turnouts. I expect, as do fluffy and a number of other community members, that two small fights will turn out a higher ratio of voters to fighters than will one large fight. Which is good.

In the interest of fairness, though, I'll say: I never cared for the idea of getting to choose your title. One of the things that I always liked about Songfight was the idea that the title was set for you, and you were stuck with it whether you liked it or not. By the time I'd figured that out, we were up to three titles per fight, and I decided for myself to always choose the red fight. Not long after that, I took an unintentionally-extended hiatus from Songfight! To that end, I'll probably be doing "Credible Threat," even though I like "I Want to Get On It" better.

On the other hand, I might change my mind. We won't know till a week from now, will we?

Interesting. That's just the opposite of me. I like having the choice, because chances are that I'm going to like one title more than the other. There have been months at a time where I can't enter because the titles don't intrigue me, and that's just frustrating to me.

However, the long breaks from SF tend to give me more time to actually call upon creativity and come up with my own titles.

I think I see what's confusing you - you're only supposed to write for one of the titles. This way, if you're only reviewing your own fight, there's basically no way that you'll have to wade through as many songs as you do now.

You've never lived through a multiple title fight? Why is it you can't just be quiet for a week or so and see what the hell happens in this new world. Why do you have to over think everything?

Step one: Just write for a title. A title you like from the choices given. Write a song. I think you know this part.

Step two: wait until they are all posted. This too is pretty familiar ground.

Step three: review some songs. Maybe you'll review all your competition, right? That's what's most intuitive for me. But you may be different, of course.

Step four: see what happens. This is like science, no? I know the suspence must be killing you by now, what with all these fewer titles to listen to and that other title "over there." Who knows what those sound like? They could be ... better! or ... noise! Scary stuff.

This thread is a good reminder of why we switch the format so reluctantly. You know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? There are good arguments on both side of the issue. Weakest Suite is right though, I take the low vote count as an indication that not very many people are making it through all 30 songs with their attention spans intact.

If you are comparing two songs, it is relatively easy to say which one you like best. With 30, it is more difficult, and people give up. Will we get 15 entries per fight, allowing people an easier decision-making process? In theory, it should be easier to vote in two 15-entry fights than in one 30-entry fight.

History suggests that this is the case. However, we obviously don't really know. I guess we will find out soon.

That's kind of how GarageBand worked back in the day (it might still work that way but I doubt it).

Song Duels used to be relatively common. Some of my best work has come from such duels. Basically, challenge one person, either come up with a title or have some third party come up with it to make it fair, and throw in an optional or mandatory challenge if you want to make things interestin'. The time frame is usually limited, as well. I've done three, and only one lasted more than a day. Voting would be done on a forum poll, or Somesongs.

I'll gladly duel any interested party, but not till Thursday.

Oh, and I'm in for Credible Threat. Definitely.

Some people maybe didn't vote because they weren't expecting the quick turnaround on the new fight. I was planning to give the songs another listen before voting because I'm used to more than a week, so I didn't get a vote in. I think someone else at least said they had the same scenario. And this isn't a criticism, but I thought I should say.

If you can pull it off, fine, I just got the impression that dude didn't know he could just write for one. And of course, it's better to make one good song that two crappy songs. And it's also better to make one crappy song than two crappy songs. If you can make two good songs, that's best of all, provided you have the self-awareness to recognize whether your songs are good. Which really, none of us have until a while after we're done making the song. Unless we're terribly insecure, in which case nothing we do is ever good enough but we really need the validation of strangers so we poop on their shoes and ask them to tell us how good it smells.

Ha! I've certainly pooped on plenty of shoes, no need to do a double-poop. And one of these would have definitely been more rushed than the other, so I'm glad I was slapped to my senses. Now it's time for a dose of extra strength poop.

Traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner involves placing hay on the table, underneath tablecloth or placemats. It also includes a sour type of cabbage, and a couple carp. I will be involved in this endeavor next Monday night, which means I'll be removing fish scales and fish heads, bones; therefore, I am wanting to get on it. The songfight, not the carp. Holy carp.

Heh! - yes, my dogs won't shit on the grass if it has been raining, they prefer to do it on the path outside the front door. They spend all day rolling around in the mud, licking each others balls and eating dead things - then they get all fussy with a bit of rain!
