SongFight! Song Ideas Generator/Idea List
Here's a thread for writing down more song ideas.
Generally not song titles; as that's for another thread... but what's the song about, or how do you figure out what it's about.
Things you'll use once and then discard.
Here's an idea for you:
Write a song about electricity, and where it goes inside your computer.

This is the original thread where we started writing these ideas. Good work, 1516, for starting this thread in the first place!

yeah, i was wondering if somebody would ask for that.
i didn't want to provide the whole list to the world at large since it's the collected brainstuffs of many songfighters, but those in the know can read the dumbrella post and see everything that's in there.
notwithstanding the fact that the page isn't linked from my site anywhere else, it is one of my most-requested pages at good ol' heuristicsinc.com.

The fun of it is the refreshing. Stops it being a once-only thing. But a button within the html would be better than just 'click yr refresh button'.
To add to the list
'Write a song about why you're not going to school/work/the cemetary today'
'Write a song about words being pointless.'
'Take a previous lyric. Translate it into another language via an online service. Translate it back again.'
'Write an answer/response to your favourite song.'
'Write a foul-mouthed lyric then replace all the obscenities with a randomly selected word/set of words.'
'Take a generally accepted concept - smoking is bad for you, the sun comes up at dawn - and then write a song about the opposite viewpoint.'
'Write a song about going to the shops.'

Oh, good idea, remind me to ask Craig if he knows how to do this. Craig is my Internet Guru and Learned Master.j$ wrote:The fun of it is the refreshing. Stops it being a once-only thing. But a button within the html would be better than just 'click yr refresh button'.
Wasn't really my idea, except the putting it on the web in a "draw-a-card" format... the idea was really 15-16's. But you're welcome. Now get that feeling several times over by contributing more song ideasTony Asbestos wrote: Thank you for posting this dealie- it was just what I was looking for. I am also proud because whenever that person writes about eating that pound of cheese (even if I do it) I will know I contributed to the ultra-magnificence of songfight.

Kinda sorta unrelated here, but my Band Name Generator, while not so great for band names (Ride the Wild Hardmeat, anyone?) puts words together in a mental goosing sort of way, when you're stuck for a line or in need of a laugh... [/pimping]

Pretty cool to see this again, especially now that I don't remember which ones are mine (though there's a couple I remember). Here's some fresh ones:
Write a song whose lyrics are self-depracating.
Write a song about your own experience with an artist, song, or album, that your listener presumably knows of (such as Nerf Herder's song "Van Halen").
Free-associate for about five minutes. You'll come up with *something*.
Write a "sequel," using the same characters or ideas from a previous song.
Try to imitate someone you admire.
Write a song about flappers (remember them?).
Write a song defending a public figure who has come under attack in recent years, or attacking someone who is universally-loved -- even if you don't agree with what you're writing (A defense of Charles Manson, or a Philipic against Mother Teresa, for example).
Take an enjargoned abbreviation and write a song about it, or an instance of it.
Write from the persona of:
--The bull in the bullfight.
--Your cable guy.
--Your dog/cat/hamster/rabbit/degu/whatever.
--A teacher you had in middle school.
--A shingle on your roof.
--The pilot of your airplane.
--Your neighbor, or a past neighbor.
Pick a random part of speech and write a whole song without it.
Pick a random letter and write a whole song without it.
Fiddle with the Baby Name Voyager and find a name that you find unusual or striking. Make it the title of your song.
Take the chorus of another song and read it from the bottom up.
Summarize your favorite book in song form.
Imagine that you've been comissioned to write the new theme song to your favorite TV show.

Write a song that sounds like it's a deep metaphor for something but actually isn't.
A track whose lyrics, when printed, spell out a secret message on the side.
Take a well known poem, and go through and substitute different verbs and nouns with similar accent patterns.
Deliberately fail to enunciate words that really aren't very sensible, but cover it up with spacey sound effects and lots of reverb so it just sounds mystical.
Write entirely in 'pataphor.
Take a common scenario, make a metaphor for it, translate it into a different language, translate it back, and then attempt to derive what the original meaning behind the screwed up metaphor is.

None we've recorded...yet . Glenn Case is real, real busy and I'm...well..I'm his Oats. Without my Hall, I'm just some dude with a porn 'stache. Also, he has all the mics and cables.HeuristicsInc wrote:Awesome! What ideas and what songs? I'd love to hear the success story.

First one was "write a song about someone who thinks they are going to die, but wakes up alive." Or something similar. I wrote a song about feeling invincible.
Sometimes I just can't think of what to write about, because I think my life experiences are kinda boring.
"When you can balance a tack-hammer on your head; you can then head off you opponent with a balanced attack!"
