I like both these titles, but will most assuredly be unable to record anything. Perhaps if I can get some lyrics written, I'll post them for charity.

my attempt to return to songfight

Post by TheWilsonHeightsGang »

Hey fighters,

It's been a while since I've posted anything (the last thing I did was "Half-Hearted Stab" as Joanie Loves Chachkies). I'm finally inspired enough to re-enter the ring!!!

Hopefully this one ends with a bang

HEY-O!!!!!!

love,

Coincidentally I just randomly listened to the "Joanie Loves Chachkies" song, and was like, "Who is this? I love this song." It's a small world. Anyway, welcome back!

Hmm. I'm just about in with The Last Year, but need a good vocal take. I tried to get drums, but couldn't get a recording that did the production quality on everything else justice. So, I've got a drumloop. Whatever.

I am OUT with a bang on this one. It's funny how the current fight reviews affect my motivation. It doesn't bother me but I know that positive comments for certain makes me want to write moreso.

Funny that, I feel the opposite. If I get a knock it makes me want to write another song, either to prove that I am better than the critic thinks or just as a sonic "fuck you". On the other hand it's harder to top a good song (and good set of reviews) so I'm more likely to think "my work here is done" and sit on my laurels for a bit. I'm smug that way :)

Strange, it sounds more like being out with a whine to me. Grow some gonads.

Understood. The Song Fight peeps are just so hard for me to please at times. I'll be back in a week.

i really liked your JTBD entry and was excited to hear something else from you, but in the back of my head, i was wondering if you were going to try another piano/spoken word thing. sure enough, you did, and it ended up sounding, to me, like a less-clever re-tread of the last entry which was clever and unique to the fight. you need to change up your songwriting so people won't be able to draw conclusions on the whole song when they hear that the first bit sounds a lot like a previous entry. mc eric b does this quite well. vocally, his rap tunes are all pretty similar in rhyming scheme and song structure, but he changes up his delivery and the background music enough to make each of his tunes interesting to listen to. and once in awhile he steps out of his comfort zone and sends in a tune that is sung instead of rapped. again, this keeps things interesting. obviously, you can do/or not do what you want. those are just my thoughts.

Point taken. Most of what I do will prob always be spoken but let's see if I can mix things up a bit more next time. thank you.

over at tuneflow, one of the titles for the challenge due Feb1 is: That Bomb You Dropped On Me
to me, this seems to compliment With A Bang quite nicely. songfighters/tuneflowers could easily kill 2 birds with one tune.

I used to get that feeling sometimes. I even considered leaving Songfight a couple times because of bad reviews, but I've stopped worrying about them. If anything, I like the fact that somebody listened to my song and cares enough to write what they think. If I like the review, I consider the opinion. If it's an "i only like rap" review, I don't pay attention, since some people's opinions matter less to me than others. In the case of my review of your song, don't worry. I will likely never enjoy a spoken word song, no matter how much talent the artist has. That's just me. Other people will likely feel differently. Just suck it up and trudge on.

 What!?! Write one song and try to pass it off in two simultaneous competitions under 2 different titles! Only a cad and a scoundrel would stoop so low.

(BTW. Mr Frost, if that is your real name - you don't moonlight under the handle of Julia Loves You, do you?)

i don't really know what you are talking about. Jackfrost is, of course, not my real name. It is the name of my favorite character from Grant Morrison's Invisibles. I have no idea who/what Julia Loves You is. The only Julia I have heard of is the blonde chick from Cowboy Bebop.

Never heard of Julia Roberts? It's okay, she is not very famous.

 Oh - never mind. Someone using the name "Julia Loves You" had written some (very good) reviews at Tuneflow. In a review of my song they also mentioned that they were aware of me from Songfight, their closing remark being:

"...I hope my review is more helpful to you than the two word reviews you give over at songfight."

Your mention then of Tuneflow, and my recollection that you also are a very useful reviewer made me put 2 and 2 together...and come up with something which obviously bears no resemblance to 4.

..though re-checking that - it appears that the name was actually "Julianna Loves You". OK, you're not Julia, but are you Julianna?

And if not...who is "Julianna Loves You"? Using multiple pseudonyms is even more despicable than giving songs multiple titles.

Regards,

Tex Beaumont
