Lock the forum. Should be able to do it from the admin panel. Should be read-only, as well.
That's what I had to do at PFP:
http://www.prefloppoker.com/Forum/phpBB2/index.php
Side question: Is there any way to delete a large amount of members at a time? There are ~1500 registered members at the PFP forum, all but 5 of which are porn spam.

If you know SQL, it's easy. If you don't, it's not.

So ... I just lock each of the forums? Or is there a "lock forum" button which just locks the whole thing?

I tried that, but it makes the entire forum unviewable. So there's no way to leave it there, but disable new members for the time being?

If you just want to disable registration there's a setting for that in the same 'general configuration' panel.

Do I change "Enable account activation" to "none"? Or is it a different button? I can't seem to find the thing you speak of (I suck A LOT at computers - I can't even believe how bad I am at them).

It's been set to admin for months now ... they can't post, but they still register and clutter up everything. Maybe I will just shut down the forum for now.

Oh, there's various mods out there which will make it so that inactive accounts won't show up in the userlist. One such mod is on here, for example. I don't know of any way to completely disable registrations though, at least not in a stock installation.

Would you be able to point me towards (or instruct me on how to setup) one such mod?

You could try checking phpBB.com. I used to have phpBB mods somewhere on my site but I guess in one of my many redesigns it got lost. Sorry.

After a couple hours of work, I've installed EasyMOD and Anti-Spam ACP on radnoise. I'll see how well it works in the next few days.

Well, I'm happy to say I haven't gotten any spam members since I installed the mods. Thanks for your suggestions ... now maybe it won't be such a pain to run my forum.
