No more Lori Peters in Skillet

Post by Reist »

Lori Peters is no longer the drummer for Skillet. She is the reason I continued drumming through the tough first years, and remains one of my favorite drummers. She's the perfect match to the band, and her playing on Comatose was easily her best. Now I get a message from the band saying that Lori is leaving. And if that wasn't bad enough, they've hired another girl drummer ... it's like they think she's replaceable.

At least I got to see them live this year, and I got her autograph on my first drum skin. But still ... this is just heartbreaking for me.

Wait ... none of you listen to skillet, do you? Of course - modern christian music ... but if you care, their myspace is here -

Check out "Yours To Hold" and "Rebirthing" if you want a taste of their newish album. Man ... I'm pretty broken up about this ... we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I saw Skillet once.

Maybe they have some strange idea that they have to keep the band gender-balanced, so they had to hire another "chick drummer", according to some weird agreement.

That's what it seemed like to me. Kind of lame - they should have hired a skilled drummer, not an 18-year-old girl who just learned to play. I don't care if the new drummer's a chick, but she's got to be good.

ps - now that it's morning, this doesn't seem quite as earth-shattering as it did last night.

Coal Chamber replaced their female bass player with another female bass player. Seemed to work out well... hmm... they broke up after their next album...so maybe it DIDN'T work out so well.

hey, i just joined. i was viewing your conversation and just wanted to say that i think it was a pretty good move on skillet's part to get a girl drummer when lori left. i mean c'mon you can never replace lori peters, but especialy not with a guy! and just because the new chic is 18 doesn't mean she just started playing...but it still REALLY SUX!

Not sure - the newsletter said she wanted to move on with her life. To be honest, I don't care for more details.
