yeah, that's exciting. the party we were at was all people cheering for the giants, and it was truly an exciting game. i think only one guy was actually "a giants fan" but that's ok.

I'm happy for the Manning boys, and being a longtime* Saints fan, I'm glad for Archie as well. My only real problem with the Mannings is when Peyton plays in New Orleans, 'cause it's like a homecoming game for him and he destroys the Saints. (We beat him once in Indy though, in '98 I think it was. Cam Cleeland with a TD in overtime.)
A disappointing loss for the home team, but at least I'm not hearing a lot of excuses and whining out of the fans up here. People are taking it hard, but taking it well. I'm kind of keeping quiet about the whole thing, because well, I'm a Saints fan, so I don't know what it's like to even make it to the big game, much less lose it. I remember how much the NFC Championship game stung last year, and if it's worse than that, I'll just let my friends and co-workers find their way through it without offering any silly attempts at consolation.
*Well, since the Jim Mora days anyway.

We don't actually watch ads much. Tape the shows you want to see, fast forward through the ads. Although there isn't much on tv now anyway.

No, I actually don't watch the ads much either, but I do like channel surfing and there's Payton selling something. It appears to me that Golden Boy, AKA Tom Brady, appears in very few ads. I can only think of one and it was a couple of years ago and very awkward. I don't know if either are nice guys or not, but I like Brady's lower profile and don't buy into the boy next door schtick of Manning.
Jim T - Why the Saints loyalty? I'm not asking in an accusatory manner, like how dare you not like the local team, but interested in what makes the connection for you. I would probably be more passionate about a Browns Super Bowl than a Patriots one for various associative reasons.

I think that he just does less ads. HOWEVER, he's all over the media and a lot more than Payton. Tom is the bigger celebrity as far as media coverage where Payton is the ad king.Paco Del Stinko wrote: It appears to me that Golden Boy, AKA Tom Brady, appears in very few ads. Y'know, they just sort of grew on me. At first, it was like 'these guys have taken incompetence to a new level', what with the guys in the stands wearing the paper bags over their heads and all that. Those original bags are enshrined in the Saints Hall of Fame, by the way. That and Tom Dempsey's stubby kicking shoe are the most notable relics this team had produced.Paco Del Stinko wrote:Jim T - Why the Saints loyalty? Then Mora held a press conference to tell the world that he was quitting because his team sucks in every aspect of the game. Then they hired Mike Ditka. Then things got really interesting (well, 6-10 was cause for optimism) and I was hooked. The team didn't win much but the entertainment value was high.
Meanwhile, the Patriots enjoyed the success of the early Bledsoe era, and they got beat by the Packers in the Super Bowl. The Red Sox were perennial heartbreakers. And it just seemed to me at the time that the local sports teams were just there to dash young men's hopes. So I opted for the comic relief instead, I guess.

Jim, did you catch that game a few years where the Saints were behind by 7 and there was only enough time on the clock for one more play after the kick off return..
They did this whole flippy thing back and forth on after the completion. One guy to another guy back to the other guy and then to another guy and he'd run a little ways before flipping it to somebody else and so on. They amazingly score a touch down on that last play!
Officials reviewed everything to make sure the play was legit and there were no forward passes or anything. They line up for the extra point to tie the game and go into overtime.
They miss the extra point.

I understand that process, Jim. Part of the appeal of the Browns to me is how they were always kind of sad-sacks who would get you right there and break your heart, like the Red Sox used to do. The paper bags is classic and brings to mind the Unknown Comic.
Good point, Hoblit. Payton is the cute family guy while Brady is out dating models and movie stars. Looks like they both reap the heap pretty well and almost become capitalist poster boys instead of sports heros.

Yeah, I remember. Thanks for that.
Hehe. But see? That's what I'm talking about. This team is SOLID GOLD, entertainment-wise.

Wow, that replay (Saints) was ridiculous... how did they miss the extra point?!
