President's Day (Feb 18 2008)

Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

President's Day (Feb 18 2008)

Post by fluffy »

I have the day off. My company gives us days off on the drop of a hat. I guess this was a good time for one since last week was a crunch period for a milestone build.

I'm spending my day off doing laundry and cleaning my apartmentt, because I suck at actually doing fun things.

qotd: Did you go to work today?

QOTD: Not yet, and I might not. I don't have any meetings or appointments scheduled today, so I'm kind of thinking, fuck it. I do have to swing by a job and pick up a check that was left for me and return some calls, but that's about it.

I should use this day to get stuff done around the house, but I'm not making any commitments, lol. :P

Here.

I have a government job and since this is holiday here in America, I have the day off. I am also the only person on my street with my flag out. On sSeptember 13, 2001 I was the only one without - ahh the fleeting joys of "patriotism."

I need better lighting for my dining area. If I still had a car I'd just drive to Ikea or Target but I don't, and this doesn't seem like the sort of thing that it's worth renting a Zipcar for, especially since I can just shop for this crap online. I am such a hermit.

(Well I could also walk to Crate & Barrel or Bed Bath & Beyond. Which I think I'll do right now, if only just to get out of the damn apartment.)

Although I am in Hong Kong, I will probably get in a few hours of work today. Also, I will probably post the songs.

What kind of fixtures did you have in mind, Fluf? Lamps, hanging, wall mount? Classic, Modern, retro, rustic, tiffany? If you have Ikea furniture now, then stick with either retro or modern. I love those little mini halogen track lights that hang by a thin wire. But I'm guessing that you don't want anything that mounts because you rent, right?

Vacation. However, I am the type who cannot properly relax when work is on my mind (and even then, I am not really the relaxing kind). Therefore, it helps if I get up and work for a few hours in the morning before going out to play.

Table lamp, and maybe a matching floor lamp, and yeah, my tastes definitely tend towards the modern. I don't have that much Ikea furniture though, and what I do have doesn't look alarmingly Ikea-esque except maybe my computer table.

Crate & Barrel had some nice stuff. Then I wandered in the general direction of Bed Batht & Beyond and was reminded that San Francisco is a weird city where most of it feels pretty safe but then there's these random pockets of scary areas with things like shops where you can get gold teeth put in, and a much denser concentration of scary schizophrenic folks with shopping carts. It's amazing how much difference just walking one block can make here... it's not even a gradual transition or anything, it's like, one second you're in a cosmopolitan downtown area, and the next you're in a slum.

Maybe you should just get another car. Lease a Prius if that makes you feel any better. It's good for the economy and the environment.

I only so rarely have use for a car. It is not worth the lease cost + $250/mo for parking + insurance + registration just to make it a little easier to wander to places where I can spend money on things I don't really need. So I'd rather spend the $5 for shipping from Target than the $20 it'd cost to rent a ZipCar to drive there.

Erin and I are in Tucson for our last night of a little vacation. We just checked out the 80's cover band playing in the venue in our hotel (the Hotel Congress). The best thing about the band is their name, "Eighties & Gentlemen". Also good were their costumes: the guitar player had on a DEVO outfit, the female singer was dressed like Madonna from "Like A Virgin", the bassist/singer was done up like someone from a Duran Duran video, and the drummer had a Sex Pistols type look going. Quite a different scene out here, though, not like home at all.
