Anyone know a cheap S/PDIF input box for a mac laptop?

Post by ken »

Hey All,

I'm helping my house mate transfer her DATs to her mac laptop. Her Sony Portable DAT has a 7 pin to SPDIF connector and I can't seem to find a cheap and simple Sdpif to USB/Firewire box. Any ideas?

My Firebox has a 10 pin, do they work different than a 7 pin?

As long as you don't care about latency, the Alesis IO|2 should do the job pretty cheaply.

Thanks. The firebox has SPDIF ins. It is kind of my first choice, but certainly one of the more expensive options.

Billy, do you like that Firebox thingy? How does that 9-pin SPDIF connect to an RCA-type SPDIF cable? Is there some kinda adapter thingy?

I was wondering the same about Ken's unit... what is the form factor of the SPDIF that you are trying to plug into something?

The Firebox has a breakout cable with midi and spdif on it.

The DAT player has a Sony 7 pin connector that goes to an SPDIF RCA type connector.

I really like it, but I can't answer your question, because I haven't crossed that bridge yet. I love the two front ins and the mic pre amps, because they are about all I use. Adam and Mark are Pre Sonus user as well, they might be able to answer your questions better.
