Here is an interesting tidbit I found while randomly googling - I won't be using the idea myself, so others are welcome to it.
Apparently Philadelphia is the home of American cricket. At the turn of the last century - teams from Philadelphia were said to have been as good as any in the world. In 1893, The Gentlemen of Philadelpia played a match against the Australian Test team - and beat them! The star of the side was one John Barton "Bart" King, dscribed as "one of the finest bowlers of all time". He is credited with being one of the first bowlers to perfect swing bowling, where the seam is kept vertical on delivery, thus causing the ball to 'swing' in a lateral arc......

I'm in for At the Arcade. That is, if I can get it done in time. Chances are I won't even really get to start working on it until tomorrow. Should be enough time though, I hope... Sometimes you can't force things. I suspect it will be pretty nerdy. I even went out to buy midi cables to hook up all my synths that are of legal drinking age...

I can never remember whether FightMasters name the song files with songbandname_inits.mp3 or inits_songbandname.mp3. So I usually go to the main page and click the top entry and look at the filename to remind myself. So today I did it without thinking and ended up staring at "fawmit_hehf.mp3" for 30 seconds before giving up. I had no idea. Perhaps I should change my band name to HEHf and write a song called "Fights Are Wearing My Insides Thin."
Anyhow, Ding! for At the Arcade. For real this time.

that's the name of the collaboration that i am 1/2 of. we are writing music for FAWM together and for some fight titles as well. we did three titles together: Ease Up On the Drugs, Half Empty/Half Full, and At the Arcade. maybe we'll do more next february.Mostess wrote:I can never remember whether FightMasters name the song files with songbandname_inits.mp3 or inits_songbandname.mp3. so, in the file name you saw, "fawmit" was the band name as one word in all lowercase and "hehf" was the acronym for the title, also in all lowercase.

Thanks. I also assume the underscore was to separate those two, and the .mp3 has something to do with helping the user and operating system know what kind of file it is.The Weakest Suit wrote:so, in the file name you saw, "fawmit" was the band name as one word in all lowercase and "hehf" was the acronym for the title, also in all lowercase.
Of course, the 30 seconds ended with me hitting the back button to see the band name and song title. So I did manage to figure it out and name my own song file correctly. But not without feeling kind of foolish. Hence the joke.
(ha ha, though in my defense, FAWM is also an acronym I wasn't familiar with.)
(adding, to save you some time: I am now familiar with the meaning of FAWM)

Awesome--This is actually the first fight since I've been around that you've been in (June-July 2007ish). I'm looking forward to it.

Embers of Autumn - good to have you back. you started a couple months after me (along the same time as hamnoburger, i think) and i thought you two guys were going to hang around awhile. around the time i started, there weren't any new people that were very consistant with entering the fights. so i was sad when you and hamnoburger faded away. good luck in the fight, and i'm looking forward to hearing your tune.

Thanks, likewise--but don't keep your hopes up, my mix didn't come out as good as it did before I started adding in vocals and drums. Those are two things I'm not very good at.The Weakest Suit wrote:Embers of Autumn - good to have you back. you started a couple months after me (along the same time as hamnoburger, i think) and i thought you two guys were going to hang around awhile. around the time i started, there weren't any new people that were very consistant with entering the fights. so i was sad when you and hamnoburger faded away. good luck in the fight, and i'm looking forward to hearing your tune.
Yeah... where IS hamnoburger? I liked his stuff....
